Long Tubes + Custom Y-Pipe and now HALF as loud!?
EDIT: Here are some pictures... you'll have to read a bit for them to make sense though
Sorry their not as big as I drew them in the first place
These are pics I drew of what I wanted my Y-pipe to be, and that the exhaust shop did:
What I Wanted
What They Did
What gives? I thought Long Tubes and a Y-Pipe were supposed to refine your exhaust tone and even make it slightly louder. Not make it twice a QUIET!
I finished up my long tube install.. and then drove it to the exhaust shop. They fabed up a y-pipe for me, but my 4 O2 bungs were open, and besides the raspeness of the open holes, it sounded great! I was just the right tone and loudness.
But today I put all the O2 sensors back in.. and it is ridulously quiet. I know it's not just me being used to open headers and what not because before my header install. Every time I started her up, I would leave my door open so I could here the 2OTL.. and I loved hearing it. And also when crusing in 3rd at 2 thousand RPMs it's just the right tone that I love.
But now.. when I start it up, it's barely audible! And at 2 thoudans RPMs crusing, NOTHING!
To be honest, I must say it is a very refined tone.. very LSx Corvette kind of tone.. But I don't want refined!
I want my growl back! I don't want it to pur
I was NOT impressed with the custom Y-pipe... it's hard to explain here and I don't want this to be too long, but it was not very "thought out". The work was good.. but not the design.. I'll try and post pictures.. but my main question is...
Do Long Tubes make your exhaust more quiet? Or is this problem within my Y-pipe...? What should I do?
Thanks guys

Your LT's of how your describing the sound... makes me think that your already going deaf by the new sound decibel that now you can't hear them rumble...maybe your use to the LT sound already...I have Shorties, no cats with a cutout exhaust dump and I'm already use to that loud "Brahhhhh" sound.. "I like it alot" ...wait..what did you say, I can't hear you?
Mine definitely got louder. I had my Hooker cat-back with stock manifolds and cats, then went to Pacesetter LTs and no cats with a 3" mandrel bent Y-pipe. It could definitely be your Y-pipe depending on the size/bends.
I would love to see some Digi pics....is it deformed and stuff? You should of did 3 inch pipes from front to back...and what LT's did you get? some LT's have custom y-pipes you can buy to make install hecka easy.

I can take some digital pics now... however the car is not up in the air. But it will give you an idea.. They will be posted in about 15-20min.
btw.. they are Jet-Hot LTs...
Here are the digital pics as requested.. I'm sorry that they don't show much because the car is on the ground. If you guys think pics of it in the air will really help.. I'll get them for you.

If you provided the drawing to the shop, and they deviated from the drawing, it was their responsibility to call you, inform you of your options, and only proceed when authorized by you. Looks to me like they provided something different than what was requested. They should correct the situation at no additional charge. I would be upset.
yea, I would suggest just ditch the cats as well....causing too much of a hassle... ha ha @T-pipe..

If it was me, i would have bought this

and welded it up my self. but now everyone has a welder unfortunatly.
for 40 bucks, i would buy that, and put it on ur cat back, and tell the shop all you want them to do is get the headers to those two pipes and be done.

Yes lol.. my drawings are NOT exaggerated. The driver side pipe is angle more toward going AGAIST the flow of the passenger pipe than it is heading back.
Ditch the cats? Sorry.. can't. I HAVE to pass emissions. Unless there is a good chance I will pass without them.. but I doubt it.
How much flow am I really losing through two 2.5 inches verses two 3 inches? I mean, wouldn't two 2.5 inches be enough? Thats what true duals would run through.
I am definately going to bring it back to the shop and have a talk. I want to hear my car again!
Any other suggestions guys? I need my cats though...
