Long tube w/ true dual VS shorties and Ypipe?

Long tube w/ true dual VS shorties and Ypipe?
I'm looking to change the exhaust on my 94 Z and was wanting some input.
I have considered just buying some shorties with a Ypipe and use my current system but would really like to go with long tubes and do a true dual setup w/ an x pipe and maybe some dynomax bullets. Should I use 2/12 or 3" pipe and what type of mufflers would work and sound good. How many of you have done this and how hard is it to do a true dual set up? I live near OKC OK and don't know many people around here with true duals on a Z.
Any input is appreciated!

To be honest, there are tons of guys on this board making big power through the standard single intermediate pipe. With up to 4" intermediate pipe and muffler (Mufflex setup), I wouldn't waste my time messing around with a dual setup that would add weight IMO.

Anyway as long as you dont care about emissions go with the duals.

do some research on the subject and you will find that a single 3" pipe will have sufficient flow for an engine upto about 350hp. if you are making over that then go to a 4" (upto about 500hp) anything more is not really helping because it causes an over-scavenging effect. its kinda like taking a firehose and hooking it to your kitchen faucet, you will get some water out of it, but not enough pressure to do any good. i have gone through 4 different exhaust systems, over the 8 years i have owned my car, to get the right mix of flow and backpressure so i dont lose any bottom end and still retain top end.

I run Hooker Jet Hot coated LTs and purple horny header mufflers.
My car is lowered a bit in the front with the Eibach drag launch kit and the headers have taken a little beating from the decreased ground clearance.
I love the true dual setup but it does require some compromises versus a stock location setup, I have rattles and the above mentioned ground clearance issues but I have driven the car everyday this summer so its not so bad I can,t drive it places but I do have to keep an eye out for speedbumps, severe dips in the road and things like that.
I love the way it sounds and I did pick up a very good performance increase from the LTs and true duals.
If you are looking for something you can just install and forget about then shorties and a Ypipe would be alot closer to that goal than a true dual setup.

Then you would absolutely LOVE my half assed purple horny setup.
Personally, after having true duals I would not be caught dead with that mishmash of tubing running over the axle.
different strokes for different folks.
