Long Tube Pacesetter help!!!!

i've got my motor out of the car and decided to bolt up the headers for a pic or 2. well, i have the motor mounts bolted to the motor and the passenger side header wont eve come close to clearing the motor mount. stock motor mounts. i'm going to9 have to grind a good 3/4 inch to make it work. the drivers side is also going to have to be notched a 1/4 or 1/2 to clear the header pipe. what is going on, i thought the pacesetters were a bolt in and go???

Re: Long Tube Pacesetter help!!!!

I put mine on with the motor in the car no problems. I had to loosen the steering nuckle for the driver side and it slipped right in from up top. For the passanger I had to go from underneath and grind down a little bit of the backing plate for the dust cover on the tranny (A4).

Re: Long Tube Pacesetter help!!!!

as far as i know, pacesetter only makes one style of header for lt1. these act like they are not even the right ones. i have just a regular 94 m6 z28

Yeah, you should recheck part numbers. No problems with the motor mounts with mine.

Re: Long Tube Pacesetter help!!!!

From what I've read on other posts, the new mounts will prevent the common problem of the Y-pipe hitting the floorpan of the car...or something like that. It's a clearance issue that's supposedly fixed with new motor mounts.

Re: Long Tube Pacesetter help!!!!

new motor mounts on the install is usually just preventative maintenance. Cause once you put headers on, you can't replace the mounts without either A) removing the headers again, or B) pulling the motor out of the car. Of course you'd just take the headers back off, but why not just replace them now with some urethane pieces to prevent needing to go back and do it later?

Re: Long Tube Pacesetter help!!!!

Interesting issue you have there....My passenger side header rubbed slightly on the motor mount bracket as well. I did mine with the engine in the car...it went in without an problems, but it was touching it alittle. I put a pry bar in and made alittle ding and no more issues. Def check part numbers, because that doesnt sound right at all.

Re: Long Tube Pacesetter help!!!!

i wish i could get pics. i'll try somehow. the passenger side header is keeping the header from coming down onto where they bolt up. i'm going to try and notch the motor mount without hurting the strength, but it's going to need notched a good 3/4". i talked to pacesetter. they claim they only make 2 different headers for lt1 f-bodies...the lt's with AIR and smog, and the lt's without (race version, which is what i have). so i have to have the right header, but damn

Re: Long Tube Pacesetter help!!!!

They do make a set with the AIR and EGR hookups on them, but you'll have to get a custom Y or X pipe with Cats on them

Re: Long Tube Pacesetter help!!!!

My race style pacesetters are really really close to the motor mount as well. I would say within an eight of an inch on the passenger side. It is kind of scaring me because when the motor twists will it mash the primary?
