Long block

I see most people describe the LT1 as as short block motor. The guy that I bought my '94 Z from put a new LT1 long block in it. The motor only has 14K miles on it currently, and has reciepts to prove it. The car only has Headers, Jacobs and MSD ignition, CAI, and Cat Back Borla exhaust (cut out currently) as far as I know for power adders. But the owner said the car has about 370HP...

What I want to know is if the long block setup creates more power. I Googled LT1 long block and all I found was info on 383 LT1 long blocks. Perhaps I have a 383 instead of a plain old 350 LT1?

This car seems to pull like hell compared to other LT1s that I have driven with similar mods, factory freak motor or just the fact that it is a relatively new motor?

Re: Long block

short block = block, crank, pistons, rods, and cam
long block = block, crank, pistons, rods, cam, heads, and intake

long block and short block do not refer to size, it refers to how much of the motor is there. if you are buying a long block lt1 then you are getting more of the motor when compared to purchasing a short block (see above description). long block vs. short block does in no way refer to how much hp is being made, just describes what major components of the motor are there.

the list above is just a reference. several people will sell long blocks and short blocks with more accessories than listed above (ie oil pan, oil pump, valve covers, timing chain....), but typically if someone lists a short block or long block, you should get atleast what is included in my list in the top of the post.
