locker in a 7.5"?
locker in a 7.5"?
hey im probably going to have my strange 4.10 installed here in the next couple of weeks and was wondering if i could use a locker unit in that rear. if the rear end is weak already, wont a locker pretty much guarantee it will hook and snap the axles? can you just use splined axles in the 7.5"? im not putting down an extraordinary amount of power so a 9" is not really economical but i worry about breaking the rear with my m6. thanks guys

If you're refering to a Detroit Locker, one isn't made for the 7.5. Not sure what you mean by splined axles. All axles are splined, otherwise how would the wheels turn. The axles don't usually break on the 7.5, it's the small ring and pinion that does.
im not talking about a detroit locker unit, just a really stiff posi unit. and ive heard of stock axles breaking in 10 bolts all the time. also people break aftermarket gears all the time. i guess what my question was is how to stiffen up the rear without going to a 9" and get the most traction possible without a spool
A true locker would be HELL on the street, i.e., you'd go through tires like nobodies business.
Eaton makes a posi unit with 800 pound torsion springs (almost like a locker), but is still pretty brutal on the street. It's not readily available from distributors, so you'd need to have it ordered probably direct. A typical Eaton unit (like mine) utilizes 400 pound torsion springs.
