Lloyd Elliot Heads/cam Setup Total Cost Questions???

I am looking at going with the LE 2 head/cam setup along with getting my manifold port matched with the heads. I know this ussually runs for around $1800 after searching on here a bit. I noticed that i also will need a 52-58mm throttle body and 30-36 lb/hr injectors. Right now my 93 z28 is a bone stock with a A4 besides BFG drag radials, a CAI, and a Borla catback with a test pipe. Anyone got an idea of how much everything is going to end up costing when everything is said and done??? i know i am going to need headers, and i was reading something about needing lifters, not sure though? what about tuning? Pretty much what it comes down to is I have $3500 to spend (maybe a little bit more if absolutly nessacary) can I make this work with tuning and other unaccounted for costs??? anyone know how much tuning on the LE 2 ussually runs?

You should have headers and y pipe setup to go with that. One of the tuning guys on the board can help you to get a tune for your motor that is pretty close.

You are probably going to need gears and a stall too to work with all of that setup well. A 3.42-3.73 would work with the LE2 setup and a 2800-3200 stall is going to work well.

If you go with the beehive spring option on the heads you will be ok on lifters. I have seen some lifters collapse with the beehive springs, but they are much less likely to collapse than with the heavy dual spring setup on the LE2's.

You should also get some 1.6:1 Pro Mag Rockers, and new pushrods to go along with the LE2 setup.

With all of that you will be pretty well setup.

do some more research on the site and you'll find what you're looking for. you can pick up a used 52-58mm TB for ~$200-$250, SVO 30# injectors for ~$125-$150 used, mid-lengths for ~$300 or long tubes for ~$400, used comp r lifters for ~$150, madz28.com tuning for ~$80.

Hope this helps!

$5,000? I don't think so, unless you're going with all new parts.

There is always a reason guys are selling things.

97s10ondubs is actually doing this so his guess is probably not far off.

I know head/cam/intake combos that eat up $5000

$80 FOR A GOOD LE 2 TUNING??? ARE U SERIOUS?? a big thing for me i want to make as much hp as possible out of this setup and i definetly want to lean towards to 420 hp side instead of the 400hp side of this setup. 80 bucks sounds to good to be true for a good tune.

Yes im going with new parts, but most bought off of other people never used. You think it doesnt, but it adds up REAL fast. 150 for fms injectors, 130 for gasket set, 265 for rockers, 80 for pushrods, 20 for guideplates, 265 for fuel pump, 50-75 for new bolts, 80 double roller timing chain, electric water pump 200, 200 for lifters, rocker studs 30, thats about 1500 right there plus 1800 for the H/C, 3200 total, now none of those are shipped. Maybe I was a little bit high, but trust me its gonna add up fast.

How many miles do you have on the block ? I'm having Lloyd do a set of heads and cam for my car right now. I started off thinking of the LE1 package, now I'm up to the LE2 heads, beehive springs, cam, ported intake, comp r lifters, ect ect ect............ Then after thinking about it for awhile, when you pull off the heads, intake, accs all thats left is the short block. So for 10 more bolts you might as well pull that out and go .030 over and balance the whole thing. I havn't stopped to add everything up, but I know I wont be done untill tax refund time. But it will be a great feeling have'n a completely new motor.

It's a mail order tune. I was thinking the least expensive way to get him up and running, not the best way to get him there. It goes without saying that a dynotune would draw the best gains and drivability.

$80 will get you up and running and give you some gains. A dynotune will give you some larger gains, but youll pay for it.

Yeah all those little not accounted for parts is what im worried about... right now at absolute most i can spend 4 grand for everything altogether being that I currently dont have a job, do you guys think that I will be make everything working well with a good dyno tuning and everything else. keep in mind I am shooting for damn near 420rwhp, so i am not looking at going the cheap way on everything and i also have to buy the LT headers, throttle body, injectors, etc etc., being that my car is almost bare stock, what im wondering is if I should just start this project or if i should just wait until i have more money???

Will going with the beehive spring option instead of the heavy dual spring setup option effect performace at all? How about durability and reliablity at the higher rpms the motor will be pushing when its tuned??

Actually the beehive spring setup is a much better setup over the duals. You use less spring pressure to achive better valve control. The lower spring pressure beats on lifters, pushrods and rockers less and the lower mass of the springs allows for more RPM. It costs more than a dual spring setup because the parts cost more but it is a better way to go.

Re: Lloyd Elliot Heads/cam Setup Total Cost Questions???

well thats good, saves me 200 bucks on lifters. so you guys think that it'll be possible for me to get everything done with dyno tuning (which i hear can be quite expensive) and the LT's for 4 grand or less?? or should I just wait? .... (I also don't plan on getting the 3.73s and the converter right now.)
