Little Tick, valves?

Well my mechanic said bring her back for another valve lash adjust on driver side and pass side..

i notice on cold starts i got a click click click (idle 1,100 and at 2,200 alittle faster) then after that it goes away once the car hits its operating temp of 170 (electric pump + waterwetter) it doesnt do it anymore really..

i imagine its just the valves that need adjusting and the fact that i drove it like 100 miles like this with a few WOT's didnt hurt it hopefully?? (before it started doing it noticably on start) like i said it goes away

were they adjusted w/ the engine running? if not try that method. loosen them up one at a time until they click. retighten until the click goes away and then an additional 1/4 turn.

check the exhaust gaskets. it sounds similar to a valve tick. or, get a screwdriver that's really big and touch it near where you think the tick is. place your ear on the handle end and listen. the sound will travel the driver to your ear. pinpoint where it's coming from.

That's exactly how piston slap sounds. Only when cold, as block and pistons warm up and expand differently, the clearence decreases and the sound disapates. When it is happening, sounds like it might be coming from anywhere on the engine. I have had it with big blocks, small blocks and the LS 1 & 2 engines. LS 2 GTO and 6 ltr truck slap pretty good at initial start up. The truck, with case iron block, is especially loud for about 45 seconds and then settles down. Of course, dealers say this is normal and acceptable.

Lets us know exactly what you fine.
