Hey guys, I got my old lt4 cam sitting in the garage. Their is a guy that I know that whats to buy the cam and the old lt4 springs (has about 5000 miles on the set up) I put some oil on the cam when I put it away but a very little suffice rust is on the cam where the bearing ride on. Its on two of the bearing spots about 1 in long. Its so small i can almost take it off with my finger nail.
Is their some thing I can us to get if off and still reuse the cam??? or is it junk?? Thanks

 

I would try polishing the rust off to the correct finish with some very fine polishing paper and oil (something like what they use to polish cranks). That may do it.

 

Use a fine brillo pad, it will bring it to the right polish.
If its pitted, its junk

 

You can use Eagle one Nevr Dull... It specifically cleans metal without causing any marks like brillo pads do, it also polishes metal very well, made just for situations like yours. I use it all the time. You can find it a Advanced Auto, Autozone. ETC it comes in a Silver and black can.

 

I would sell it to him and tell him its up to him. I wouldnt want it in my motor, polished down or not.
