Little black box to run fans and electric water pump with the key off???

Hi,
I was wandering if anyone knows anything about this little black box to run the fans and electric water pump while your at the drag strip cooling down. I seen this on an Impala SS on a web site, I emailed the guy about it and I never got a reply. If anyone knows about this please let me know. Thanks

Those Impala guys will buy anything....

The fan switch is the same as what you are describing. You set a switch to jump the relay to the e.waterpump and cooling fans. There are various schematics to do this under "fan mod".

You'd need a deep cycle battery, and I'm not sure if the benefits received from that (that would have to be atleast 10 minutes run-time to be effective????), would be negated by the alternator having to work harder to charge the battery down the strip, which takes HP as well.

I have an electric water pump and a manual fan switch. The water pump is wired to be on whenever the ignition is on. Basically, the activation wire for the pump relay goes to the cruise/AC fuse under the hood.

The manual fan switch is set up so that it grounds two wires in a connector under the hood. This gives me high and low speed control for the fans. Because of the way the car is wired from the factory, the fans will only come on when the ignition is turned on. The switch does not disrupt the normal automatic control of the fans by the computer.

So, if I just leave the ignition on but don't start the car, the water pump runs. If I also have the fan switch turned on, the car will cool off all by itself. You can actually watch the temps drop on the gauge. Usually it takes only a minute or so to drup under 180. That's no where near enough to drain the battery.

Best of all, it's totally transparent to driving the car normally. I can't forget to turn anything on or off.

Thats a really good idea. Ill have to try that. That box Im talking about made it really simple thats why I was asking about it. You just wire the fans and the water pump to it and its switch activded and it also looked like it doesnt alter the factory opperation of the fans. Thanks for all your help.

Actually that's just a simple timer used to trigger the fan[or electric water pump, or both] relays..
You'd still have to wire it up..
But it's an interesting concept for those of us that tend to forget, or if you want to control the time, etc..
