Listen to this

friend of mine had a "stumble sputter" going on and when it was sputtering his A/F gauge would be straight black. well he found the ground and saw that it wasnt grounded so he fixed it and the AF gauge works and teh car doesnt sputter anymore........WHAT THE HELL. can someone explain how that worked???

circumstance? =) could have been causing a larger electrical problem throughout the system somewhere. You'd be suprised what a missing ground can do. thats the best i can do....

It was probably forcing the voltage through his oxygen sensor circuit on that side (whichever one he has it hook to) causing it to read wrong.

Just a guess.

That is the problem. without the gauge being properly grounded, It was searching for a ground through the O2 sensor in turn making the readings incorrect for the computer.
