Line Bored Timing Chain???
I was told that i needed a line bored timing chain set for my 383 shortblock...
I might have mis understood what he was saying or he couldve been wrong.
I just wanted to know if anyone else has one on their setup or can explain what he was talking about in better detial?

Never heard that before. Regardless if you line bore the mains...the end of the crank that the gear goes on is still the same size and needs to go out the same hole. I just built my 383 and threw it in with the LT4 extreme duty set. Got 900 miles on it so far. Sure he didn't say you'll need to line bore it (the block) and a timing chain set?
I'd like to know because that means I'd better go in and fix it.

If you align bore and take too much material off the block side, the crank will be shifted up toward the cam and "loosen" the chain. A good shop doing align bore like the one that did mine knows that you have to take off most material out of the cap and very little off the block so as to not creat such a problem. Why, because there is no "shorter" chain available.
Think about it. The teeth on the 2 gears are always in the same place. What we call pitch. If there were shorter chains available, they would have to be a different pitch since you just can't leave out one link. Leaving out 1 link would make the chain too short. If the pitch of the chain changes then both gears would have to be changed as well. There is no one that offers such a kit.
