Limiting factor
Limiting factor
Ok, heres the parts of my 383 that i just finished up. I was wondering how big of a shot i could run and what is the real limiting factor on that. Also what na/nitrous times do you think i will be running through a 9" with 4.30 gears, m6 trans. ok heres the list: street twin, le3 heads/cam, eagle h beam 6" rods w/ L19 bolts, lunati forged 383 crank, srp 138103 forged pistons, zero decked block, sheet metal intake with direct port fittings(don't have the nitrous set up for direct port yet, just the nx wet kit), block half filled, splayed mains, 58mm tb, 37# injectors, bigger fuel pump, jet hot long tubes, true duals, bmr k member, bmr upper and lower a arms, agx shocks, v6 rear springs, lower springs in the front, battery in the back, basically got all the supporting mods for the . thanks for your time...i'm just trying to see what you all think..ready to get my car to the track after i get the paint work finished up...

Re: Limiting factor
Well, I"m no expert at this, but what's your ring gap? Did you tell your machinist that you were going to load her up on juice, or is it a n/a setup? If you didn't tell him, it might be set up all motor. AFAIK, if you don't run a large enough gap with a big shot, you can end up breaking the ring lands when the rings expand. Don't take my word however, like I said, I'm no expert on this.

Guys run 200 shot on stock short blocks and completely stock engines. As long as ya pull enough timing and use a wet kit and have enough fuel pump all to prevent rattling it ya should be fine up to a 200.It also has to be tuned for the hose by somebody that KNOWS what they are doing or ya WILL hurt the motor.
Fat is happy on a NO2 motor.
Re: Limiting factor
yeah i'm just wondering what would limit how much the motor can hold. I talked to the guy who assembled it today and he set up the rings to run nitrous he said. I forgot all about it..i have soooo many projects going on right now. I was thinking that the main hold back to running a big shot would be the fact that its not direct port.

42# injectors to not have to run the pressure so high

Re: Limiting factor
If I had to pick a "limiting factor", it would be the compression height on the pistons, due to the 6" rods. With a nitrous piston, you want a thicker crown to take the abuse, and you want to drop the ring pack down farther from the top of the piston, to keep the top ring out of the heat. Do that and your wrist pin it way up into the ring pack.
