limit on how much lt1 heads can be milled

is it safe to mill lt1 heads down to say 48-50 cc's

what kind of things come into play when doing so?
piston to valve clearance? etc...

Ya CAN go to 48 but the head surface is mighty thin. .008=1CC about.

what about angle milling them instead of flat milling? how much can you go without running into clearance issues?

To go that far on an angle I think the plug is gonna hit the piston.
I have not gone that far.If the plug won't clear the piston, just throw them away.

well exactly what is the stock distance between the plug and piston, obviously you can go close to that, but angle milled properly will lay the plug more parallel to the piston, angle milling is usually more productive for cutting cc than flat milling, the disavantage is you must resquare the head bolt faces and possibly add spacers, depends how much you want to drop one side.

So how much in decimals can you mill max? I came across this post in a search but you're talking in cc's.
I have my engine out and believe I have a blown head gasket which probably means warped head. My HAYNES says .010 max cut. Is this accurate? I will be removing them friday and taking them to the machine shop to have them checked but need to know the max cut for real.

Re: limit on how much lt1 heads can be milled

I've found the limit to how much you can mill them is till you cut into the top cut on the valve job.

I've had LT heads milled to take 7-8cc out of them so it shouldn't be much of a issue to angle mill them to under 50cc if they are stock.
