Question Lightweight battery

I read something about a 13lb battery (Dyna or something) ....is that much lighter than a typical battery? Anything I can do to lighten up the front end can help with traction and handling some. What are your opinions on whether or not it's worth it to move the battery to the trunk? Most people say it isn't worth the trouble because it's such a small increase in traction. You'd think it would make a big difference if placed right over the right rear tire though ....no? Where can I get one of these lightweight batteries and does it have much cranking power?

Read this :

I wouldn't relocate the battery as you have to add weight just to route large gauge wires to the back of the car. I would imagine putting some money into your suspension would help more - Spohn/BMR torque arm, LCA, PHR, V6 springs, Nittos/DRs....

If you are thinking about weight reduction :

Question

Thanks for the info. Does anyone here actually use these dry cell batteries? How practical are they really (without having to read all of that technical stuff). If it would require a lot more TLC than a regular battery and/or not last nearly as long I'm not interested.

I run a Hawker Genesis G16EP which is the same as the Dynabatt but only $69. It works great. I've had it for about 6 months now and have not had a problem cranking my 11.1 comp 396. I did have my stock battery relocated to the rear. I moved this small battery back up front. The total weight saved with the new battery including the 0 awg wire that was run to the rear of the car and the battery box in the rear was 33.5lbs. Not a bad deal at all for $69.

Did you have to get anything else for that battery to work with our cars? Also, how did you mount it since it's alot smaller then a regular battery? Thanks for the help!

Did you have to use the SAE battery terminal set they also sell for about $10? The Hawker posts don't look like a normal post for what I can tell.

The battery just has threaded inserts rather that posts. You could get the screw on type posts. All I did was use bolts that threaded into the battery and put new ring terminals on the battery cables. Tighten it all up and it's good to go.
