Lightest 4th gen you've seen?

Hey guys, I was wandering whats the lightest 4th gen F body you've seen?

I want to shed as much weight as possible!!! Theres no A/C, heater, vents, blower motor, etc. No ABS, no radio, probalby no back seat, stripped down to the bare minimum wire harness, already a fiberglass hood. I must keep the OEM glass.

This car will be mainly a drag car but occasionaly put on the street... very occasionaly! Its a 93 Z28 with a 383 LT1 and a T76/T78 (havnt decided which yet) It will make close to 1000hp.

The reason to this question is I'm not sure on the tranny yet... I'm thinking about a powerglide with a lower low gear set (VS the 1.76), but the car needs to weigh close to or less than 3000lbs race ready to use that tranny.

The motor is already built and waiting on the rest, but I want to take my time and do this right. This is why I'm asking for your input and experiences.

I already plan on using a Chromeoly 10pt cage, K member and front suspension along with a Pinto manual steering rack. Any other suggestions?

Why you ask?
I build import (Honda) race cars, and I'm tired of hearing all my customers say... "hey whenever you finish your Camaro, I will give you * cars and the move" :-) Now these cars are fast (mid 10's all day long), but they wont have a chance in hell against my car on the track after all this!

You say that you want to reduce the weight to around 3000 lbs. Isn't the stock car weight around 3300lbs?? if so then shedding 300 or so pounds shouldn't be too hard. I know it sounds extreme, but a friend of mine who has built a drag car had cut out the flooring of the car in the boot and back of the car and replaced it with light weight aluminium sheeting. I think he took off like 30kgs, which is something like 70 lbs. Obviously you can also take off all the front and rear bumper bars when racing.

I noticed you also said you'll be driving this car on the street sometimes. Is 1000hp street legal ?????

with a 1000hp turbo 383, you should be able to beat those imports with the full interior Get the car on a scale after you beat them so you can brag even more

thanks for the replies so far.

There is no limit on HP of what is legal or not for the street.

Already found that site, which has many discrepancies.

"those imports" are making up to 700whp and weigh less than 2300lbs! The only thing I have over them is I'm rear wheel drive which is why they cant touch me on the track.
The car that I built from the ground up and sponsor runs 10'8s on the brakes at 116mph blowing the tires away into 3rd gear! Best mph was 139 so far, and that too was spinning like crazy...

Now you see why I need 1000hp?

seems you already know what needs to be done.
my car as it sits on 17" wheels and tires weighs 3188lbs, i have no interior accept the driver and passenger seat, dash, stock wheel, both bags and door panels with all working elctrics including power driver seat, everything else has been removed accept everything that lines the roof of the car. you can see the ground thru the shifter hole. car is a hardtop too
that weight is with a BMR k-member and lower a-arms also everything else is stock cept for boltons
i imagine if you did all that and some light weight shocks like coilovers that dont use the upper a-arms and some light weight brakes, a pin on hood, drag wheels etc. 3000 with you in it could be done
check out www.ajeracing.com for some lightweight stuff (chromoly front stuff) and coilovers that delete the upper front a-arm
VFN makes some cool light weight body stuff

and no matter what if you beat those hondas all their gonna say is "well you should be able to beat me, you have 300 more horsepower"

my $0.02
Steve

very funny!

Seriously though, this is the kind of reply I am looking for!
after hearing that I definately think I can get down to or below 3000lbs...
the Airbag, power seat, etc will definatley help even more. My dash is mostly gutted now, so theres not much besides wire left to sort through and rip out. I didnt even think about a coilover that would remve the upper arm! Just the price of the chromeoly upper arm alone whill probably be close to what the coil overs cost.

thanks!
