Lifters are collapsing when hot
Lifters are collapsing when hot
I posted about this awhile back but didn't get much of a response. Anyways, I did a LE2 h/c and when I started it up, I had one lifter pump down on me when it got hot. I pulled the valve cover when it was running and I was getting oil, so that's not an issue. Well to be safe, I changed all the lifters again (comp 850's) just incase I had another one taking a crap. Well ever since I did it, they all generally make alot of noise, especially when it gets warm. Mind you, I running royal purple 20w-50 and I've even switched to lighter weights and non-synthetics to see if it made a difference. still same result. I mic'd the lifters to make sure they were the same diamater as the stock lifters, and the old (stockers) were 1-2 thousandths larger than the new ones. I'm a mechanic but I'm no expert engine builder, but I wouldn't think that little bit of a difference would cause my problem. hot the oil psi is 35-40, so there is no lack of oil pressure. Can someone give me alittle insight to what this could possibly be. I concidered getting a different set (brand) of lifters, do you'se think that's a reasonable idea?

Just for some insight, Formula WS6 did my LE2 install. Our cars were being worked on at the same time and were basically finished at the same time.
We used the same exact parts. My lifters dont make any noise. Did I just get lucky?

u might have not set the valve lash correctly or gave them to much preload. check your pushrod length with a pushrod length checker. u have eliminated bad lifters because u switch them so u have something else going on.
The lash was set and reset about half a dozen times. I origonally had them set where comp cams suggested they be set @ 0 lash plus 1/2 turn. Then I set them to what lloyd recommended, 0 lash and snug the poly lock and tighten to 1/8-1/3 turn. Tried back at a half turn plus 1/4, still the same result. I had checked the pushrod length and the geometry is correct. I'm kinda baffled. My next major step would be to have the bottom end rebuilt, and a machine shop check the lifter bores.

I got a refund for the lifters so I'm guessing that they were defective, but that doesn't come close to the rebuild that I'm thinking originated from them.
0 RWHP,O RWT for now.
