lifters bleeding off
lifters bleeding off
comp r lifters bleeding off as i drive is it because i got them too tight on install?
i start the car and drive it about 5 or 10 miles and the rockers are all loose so i tightened them and tried again and same problem. I am wondering if i got them too tight and they are not staying pumped up. Im going to pull them back out and resoak them and try again. im about to toss them for a set of stock ones. they have less than 30 miles on them. i guess its a possibility that i collapsed one. any ideas on what else could be the problem i have good oil pressure and lots of oil slinging from the valvetrain while the valve covers are off.
any help would be great

Re: lifters bleeding off
not too worried about the lifters that much any more comp told me to slowly back off the rockers because i thought they were too tight. they said to back them off and run it and let the lifters pump up and it died and doesnt start now. doesnt even crank over. also a lovely piece of info is one of the push rods went through the back of the rocker arm and lodged it self in it so i pulled it apart and put a new rocker on it and double check the rest of them and checked to make sure valves were all attached and still no crank the starter clicks once and sounds like the motor is locked hopeing its a bad starter not sure so not the lifters are the least of my worries
Re: lifters bleeding off
after doing some research, which im sure i should have done more to begin with i found out the the rockers i am using only have a .550 max lift on them im thinking since i through the push rod though and exhaust rocker i caught the #2 cyl under pressure and that might be why i and not able to start it. Im going to order some better rockers, and also pull the plug from the cyl and hope for the best. i keep you up to date.
Re: lifters bleeding off
Well let's hope not as there's alot of money in that motor.
I personally doubt there's any cylinder wall or head damage though. That motor wasn't run very much at all when it started making the bad noises.
But if worse came to it, it's time to build the original LT1 maybe with some AFR heads or at least the LE stage 3 heads/cam. But that would be alot of money though.

Re: lifters bleeding off
the head is off and every thing is pretty torn up. Hoping to put pictures up tomarrow. Head needs quite a bit of work but is fixable. (I think)
Piston has a hole so i have to pull the motor again. cylinder is scratched (cracked) not sure keep you guys up to date.

Re: lifters bleeding off
motors out and disassembled. Visual damage consists of a hole in #2 piston and a bent rod on the same cyl. A piece of a valve went into the head and made it through to a water jacket. and i also cracked the #2 cyl. The machine shop has it and is checking it out for other minor problems and i am having them assemble it next time to save me the problems lol.
