Lifter Tick... uh oh..!! help

Well that noise we thought was valve lash or piston slap... that goes away in 3-4 minutes after warmup is 2 or 3 lifters ticking... my mechanic is gonna do a micro valve lash tomorrow to make sure they are perfect then i know its lifters... how hard is it to replace them and what special ones do I need... engine has less then 600 miles (we reused lifters though since they are hydraulic)

I'd like todo it myself for cost factor and its not to big of a repair

Its not too difficult of a job, Shoebox has some directions on his site as part of the cam removal/install process. You could always go with the Delco replacements or you could get the Comp OE Roller Lifter set that runs a little over two hundred bucks.

when my lifters were ticking (stock 145k lifters), i added in some lucas oil w/ my castrol syntec blend oil and they stopped ticking. Easy $40 fix and no more ticking lifters

Ticking lifters is not really a problem, especially with a aftermarket cam. If it goes away after warm up you should be fine, but reset the preload and see if that helps.

loose is fast, well not exactly. But better a little loose than a little tight.

If it goes away it is probably normal for the car. Mine tick on startup, hell mine tick all the time now that I think about it.

^that is correct
if you use a synthetic, or synthetic blend use the lucas synthetic oil stabalizer
regular oil just use the lucas heavy duty oil stabalizer

edit: use 1 qt (1 bottle) and 4 bottles of oil
be sure to run a good filter too, I am running a WIX filter that flows exceptionally well.

i said stabalizer and my mechanic said thats just masking the problem.... if the tick leaves hows that masking the problem isnt it going to lube the lifters up better and make them work better???

he did a cold valve lash today still ticked.. its 3 and 7 on the drivers side i believe thats what he said

i would run it, it does help them out. IDK how its "masking the problem" either? in fact, its what both my mechanics and the chevy dealership here told me to do, and i trust all of them
