My engine has lost a bearing in the bottom end and I’ve got metal in the oil. There were metal fragments all through the oil filter element and my magnetic drain plug looks like a Chia Pet. I also noted fine metal filings on top of the spider when I pulled the intake (so I know metal made its way through the engine). The lifters (CompCams ‘R’ series rollers) aren’t that old and look pretty good on the outside…..it’s the inside I’m not sure about. Is there any way for me to insure they are metal-free internally so I can reuse them?
Thanks,
Rob

You can usually disassemble the lifters, clean them and put them back together. A wire retainer holds in the inner part of the lifter. Compress inner portion and remove the retainer, then the guts will come out.
These Comp Rs have a metal plate instead of the snap-ring style retainer. I'm not really sure on how to remove them without destroying them! Guess I could take a closer look though.

Call Comp. They can't be that **** about their product. There must be a way to put them together, so there must be a way to pull them apart. Might require a special tool.
