Lifter Collapsed

Hey guys,

Aside from mileage ( 100k mile motor ) - what would cause a lifter to collapse? 1995 Formula. Lifter collapsed, pushrod popped out from under the rocker arm, rocker arm spun freely while the pushrod rattled around. Only drove for a little while - less than 100 miles to over estimate. My dad said it was just "driving funny" and when we went to go to dinner I heard the ticking/knocking noise and popped the cover off to find the pushrod off the rocker arm.

Likewise, aside from replacing the lifters, pushrods, gaskets, what else MUST be replaced or should be checked that could have caused the lifter failure? Thinking about doing the timing chain as a maintenance item, maybe springs, but then we're at the point of "might as well cam it."

The only other symptom the car has is vanishing coolant. No white smoke, no massive puddles under the car, oil is fresh and clean, and interior floorboards are dry. Yet coolant is escaping somewhere - topped it off and ran it for about 20 minutes and now half the radiator from what I can see from the radiator filler neck is empty. But again - oil is clean, no white smoke coming out AT ALL, and interior is dry.

Get a pressure tester put on the system and see where it is leaking.

My dad and I had it pressure tested and it was leaking a little bit out the back of the driver's head but not enough for what he had missing from the 20 minutes of run time.

???

Was it coming out of one of the steam pipe fittings or the actual head gasket area?
