Lifter bleeding down?
Lifter bleeding down?
I keep having to readjust cylinder 3 exhaust rocker. I can get it set and drive around and be fine, but as soon as I run the car hard the rocker starts ticking because it has become loose. I blamed it on my self the first couple times thinking that I was not locking the poly lock down properly, but now that I have tried every way suggested on this site its time for me to move on to a different possibility.
How can you tell if you have a lifter that is bleeding down without having to pull the intake off the car to get the lifter out for inspection?

Seams like if it was bleeding down it would give you a problem idling and at low RPM not wot. Have you moved the polylock/rr to a different cylinder to see if the problem follows. Have you checked the push rod for straightness and the stud on #3 E for good threads. If all that checks out good the lifter and cam lobe are next to check. LF
I have put a new poly lock and lock nut on and it still does it. Threads are all good, every time I readjust I check the pushrod for straightness and it's always perfectly fine. I am hoping it's not a cam lobe, I don't want to have to do anything like that, lol. I do have the same cam in my motor sitting in the garage though, so no big deal if that is what it comes down to.
Maybe whenever I decide to readjust again, not driving the car with this problem I have a DD lol, I will change the stud out just to be safe. If it is a lifter I wonder if I should just buy one morel lifter, that's what's in there now, or if I should just swap my LS7 lifter/pushrod combo from my other motor.
Pull off the polylock and take a look at the rocker trunion. If you're looking at a curved surface, it's installed wrong. Pull off the rocker, flip over the trunion so the flat part is where the polylock will sit and adjust the preload...
I've see guys spend weeks trying to figure out wher they keep losing their settings only to find one rocker is installed upside down.
Good luck,

If you suspect it's a lobe gone bad, you can install a dial indicator on the rocker arm and manually turn over the engine to see what valve lift you get. If it's substantially different from one of the others, the lobe's gone.
Sometimes you can visually tell that a lobe's gone just by watching how much the rocker moves in opening the valve.
Beauty is checking it this way only involves removing the valve cover.
