Re: Lifter to blame... need new ones
just so everyone knows, I hear there is new and old comp r's, and I must say I bought these comp r's about 2 years ago, and this is the 2nd one to fail and I never claimed to be a master mechanic, but I can adjust them at 1/16-1/8 preload pretty damn good. Maybe the problem was that I learned on comp r's? But I definitly would say that all those people who think perfect valve lash is gonna make these work, I can't wait till you get the noise in your motor like I did
thanks again bret for the advice, hope these gmpp lifters are perfect for my app.

Pictures showing the different lifters....
Left to Right, Stock, New Comp R, Morel
Morels have the tightest tolerances and they are also the best made, there is a lot of attention to detail in these things as well.

Re: Lifter to blame... need new ones
Are there any block mods that have to be done to run the Morel's, and is the lifter valley spider retainer still needed with those???
How much are we talking for a set of these?

Its just been pulled apart and 5 were missing the retainers alltogether and the other 11 were getting cracks. When you start getting the random misfire code, it ain`t the opti this time buddy. take a look at those hype r`s....

Very strange, so you`ve actually had them out since you put them in? I turn 64k rpm and have about 6k miles on them.
I would say 1 of three things occured.
1. you recieved a set of the previous design comp r`s.
2. comp actually has fixed the problem and you have one of the first fixed sets
3.They sold you regular lifters in a comp r box(Lol...)
You sure you don`t work for Comp or are in some way sponsored by them? There are a awful lot of knowledgeable people that have put these in w/ failures. I understand the noobs overtightening them. But mine were set at zero. I guess you just looked out somehow.
Re: Lifter to blame... need new ones
haha, ive got them sitting in oil since i tore my old motor down in february, they are definatly the new design, and none of them show any undue stress of the clips. Maybe your right and comp has fixed the problem and i got a good set, either way, ive got them out, and all look great, so i dont have any problems reusing them...if they fail, they fail, and ill replace them, untill then, ill keep the $150 in my pocket
