Re: life of an lt1 clutch?

It all depends on how the car is driven, and the driver of the car. If the driver rarely every slips the clutch when starting out, then the clutch may last for the life of the car. If the driver dumps the clutch, then it won't last very long either, nor will the trans/rear end. My car has 78200 miles on it and the clutch has about 12000. It was toast at 66000. But, the car was beat to Sh*t and saw the track a few times. I'm just surprised the rest of the drivetrain is still in good shape for the beating this car got. If your car has never been beat on, never been raced, and the driver's left leg knows what to do, then i'd say that your clutch is still in good condition.

One way to tell is to just go and stop the car, have someone stand next to the rear of the car watching the rear wheel while you rev and dump. if the wheel immediately spins or you take off, then your clutch is good, you'll be able to feel it inside too. don't do this too much, though it is fun. good luck, and untill you have noticeable slip, don't worry about replacing it.

I'll tell you this stock clutches dont like slicks. They werent even good slicks. They were used circle track slicks. 498 miles on a brand new clutch and it slipped with a 3500rpm dump

On my case it got worn out around 48K
I would not hold Drag races any more
Pressure plate was not STRONG enough
with Drag Radial
Avg Drop was 2.8 3.8K
I was cutting 13.2 with 3.42

Re: life of an lt1 clutch?

my original clutch lasted for 104,000 miles. 90,000 of those was everyday driving and the rest iwas pretty hard on it. a lot of passes on drag radials and such. held up great. guess it just depends.
