Life after Overheating?

Warning Long Post (but i'm in dire need of assistance):

So, i think i killed it. It ran a little hot, but nothing major. This running a little warm has been a problem since i got the car this winter. The gauge can get about half way up there, but not really over that. I had popped a coolant line earlier this summer, but that was from my fans deciding not to turn on anymore. I wired them up to a switch, and haven't popped a line since. The Temp gauge has always seemed a little erratic. It goes up and down all the time. Like the engine magicly cools off (even at idle), then heats back up to about 200 degrees, then goes back down even while not moving. While i've owned it I've flushed coolant/radiator 2x now even added some water wetter. I've changed out the thermstat, and the temp sensor in the water pump and the one in the block. I've got a few bolt on's on it: LT's, Y-pipe, catback, pullies, TB bypass, MadZ28 Tune, CAI, TB foil, and an msd 6a ignition and the odo reads 99K miles, for Fyi.

Anyway, I was out cruise'n around and raced an ls1, i hit the 75 shot n2o and took off. (I've been spraying on it all week with out problem) At about the 4 1/2K rmp mark the exhaust (i think) started popp'n WTF? It hadn't done that before. I quit spray'n and pulled over. My temp gauge, was is pegged. After letting it sit for about 5-10 min it started to come down. Then it was fine. After driving it around for about a block or two it way cooled down. Then while sitting at a light it almost pegged again. I pulled over and popped the hood. It was warm, (the LT's emit a lot of heat), but otherwise it seemed same as always to me. So you can see that at this point i don't trust this damn gauge.

(Here comes the point....) On the way home it stayed pegged the whole time. ME BEING A ****ING MORON , decided it was fine and drove about 10 miles on the freeway with it pegged. The moment i got off the freeway i started hearing clunk, clunk clunk, getting louder and louder from the engine. I pulled over and cut the engine. A puddle of coolant was under the car but it was so dark i couldn't tell where it was coming from. It's cooling down right now, and im going to check it out when it gets light out.

FINALLY, my question is... IS THERE LIFE (for this car) AFTER A OVERHEATING LIKE THAT? What's most likely damaged? Anyone over heat to the point where it starts clunk'n and it start up fine later? Can anyone go back in time and tell me "don't drive on it." Thanks for any help.. i need it.

At the very least, I'd say you have a headgasket/s blown. At the very worst you've taken out the bearings and thats the clunk you hear. Either way, your going to have to start tearing it down to find out whats wrong.
