Question leaky water pump

I got a leak from the back of my water pump. It is a 95 lt and it only leaks while the engine is running. Does it need to be replaced or can I repair it withot a new one. Any recomended pumps if I need to replace?

Re: leaky water pump

It sounds to me like the weep hole is leaking on the water pump. Id replace it. Some people say its a pain to change but its not that bad.

I'm not TOO experienced... but if the water pump is leaking from behind, and the opti is behind it... you MAYYYYY wanna change that soon.

Yeah I agree with fragenstein, id replace it asap. And when you do you will want to cover the opti with a rag or 2 to prevent coolent from running out all over it.

Re: leaky water pump

It is the box under the waterpump that all the plug wires run into. Its the distributor on an LT1.

I had the same problem, I replaced my water pump with an electric unit. However, a few weeks after the job the opti went and I have a new one on the way, I suggest you replace the pump immediatly.

A stock replacement would do the trick just fine. They are around $50 at Autzone. They arent that difficult to change. It took me about and hour or 2 to change mine. Its best to do it from under the car.

Re: leaky water pump

How much better is an electric pump? Do they really add that much more power? Would it be worth the upgrade? I may have to sell my car and I don't want to spend to much $$ if it isn't really worth it. Know anybody looking for a Z?

Re: leaky water pump

If you are gonna sell it i wouldnt spend the extra $120 on an electric pump. Id just go with a stock replacement. What are you gonna be asking for your car?

Yah, sounds like your water pump is gone. But if you're selling anyways, I wouldn't really worry about the opti. Sure, you might have harmed it, but if it's still working good.. just throw on a new stock pump and get it done with.

Yeah that kinda happend to me...looked at the car, ran perfect. When I picked it up, it went downhill from there. Water pump started leakin on the opti, and it runs like crap now . So do replace it asap..
