leaky oil filter

Angry leaky oil filter

today after i changed my oil my filter started to leak. i put another filter on but it still keeps pouring out. both filters have gaskets in them, whats the deal.

did the old gasket come off the old filter?

there was a gasket on the old filter, is there another gasket im missing . ive always changed my own oil, this has never happened before. oil streams out whenever the car is running

Check and make sure there is no gasket material on the mating surface of the filter where it mounts to the engine.. some may have been left over (rare, but possible I guess) from an old filter... make sure it is nice and clean and has no gouges of any kind..

Also, are you lubricating the seal before you put it on?

If its streaming out you probably put the filter on wrong. Check and see if you cross treaded the filter.

yeah im putting a little oil on the gasket before i install, if ive crossed up the threads is there anyway to replace or fix the problem. this is so frustrating, thanks for the help guys.

Do you have an oil cooler ? This happened to me once after changing oil, had leak that looked like it was from the filter, it wasnt, was the oil cooler leaking, when I removed the oil filter it must of loosened the oil cooler.

i know this sucks dude, something so simple and yet hard to find out whats going on, im sure you will though
