Leaking Injector?
Leaking Injector?
I had a low rpm miss (<2000rpm) after the car warmed up and code 16 (low res opti) so i replaced all of the ignition system so nearly everything on my new motor is now brand new (opti, icm, coil, plug wires). Im waiting on my plug wires to get here so i can start it, but after changing my oil im wondering if i have a leaking injector since there is a faint smell of fuel in the oil. The car was also running crazy rich... so much so that it would burn your eyes from the fumes. I dont have a fuel pressure gauge (wise to invest in one, i know) so here's what i did to check the injectors:
I pulled my fuel rail up and turned the key on. A little bit of gas comes out of a few injectors. Does this mean i have a few bad injectors or do I have to unplug all of the connectors on the injectors before I do this because they are just pulsing normally?
I bought the injectors on ebay and they were supposed to only have 20 miles or so on them because the guy couldnt use them with his 3rd gen because he said they were overkill. Thats the story anyway.
EDIT: just tried it with the injectors disconnected and no different. They arent leaking enough to be dripping, but the tips of them just get wet. Looks like im on my way to get a fp gauge

The injectors will not pulse until you turn the key to "start". You didn't have to pull the harness connectors off. You won't see a lot of fuel drip out of the injectors when you test it the way you did. It only takes a very small amount of fuel loss for the pressure to drop to "0".
Put a gauge on it.
Misfires can cause the engine to run rich. Does not necessarilly mean you had leaking injectors or excessive fuel pressure. When you are testing the pressure, you need to take the vacuum compensation line off the fuel pressure regulator at some point. When you pull it off, check for wet fuel in the vacuum line. That would identify a leaking fuel pressure regulator, and that fuel would be going directly into the intake manifold.

Just put the gauge on it and its about 46psi when the pump is on but when the pump kicks off it drops down to 41psi immediately. I haven't searched yet but i dont think that seems right. It holds the 41 for a long time though so that means no leaking injectors
