Road atlanta has a lot of walls and you have to be careful, especiallly on a 100 deg day where the track is very slippery. I have been running there for years and know the proper line.

I won't argue with you, even though I could. Drivers that are uncoachable never make it very far.

Dude, take it easy on the guy...while I will agree he was apexing early a few times, I thought he was driving pretty good, especially for being in traffic.

Tim, I was rooting for you to pass that black BMW 3 series. He should've waved you by earlier. Glad to see you were able to get by.

A note about spun bearings and oil....I was at Watkins Glen back in June and put in an extra quart of oil thinking it would be sufficient, but it wasn't. Car seem to run fine, then two weeks later at an autocross found out after running it all day there that the motor had spun main bearing and the it's currently shot. I'm signed up to go back to Watkins this Monday and Tuesday, but I doubt the car will be ready. Will be working on it the next few days, but I don't think I'll be making the trip. Anyone looking to buy a couple days at Watkins? $390 for 4 - 40 minute sessions over two days. Can't beat the track time!

Thanks H82, my reason for posting this was to show people what a camaro with these packages can do, not to showcase my driving. People on the internet are going to make comments without knowing the situation, who you are, what you have done, or if you are uncoachable or not!

If you run a stock oiling system, my guess it wont last, I spun the mains on my last motor.
As far as the radiator, the stock one is still in, but some extra capacity would help-Saturday was over 100 degrees and water temp was at 240 oil at 270, Sunday was about 85-90 degrees and water was 220 oil was about 230 or so. I also have a big oil cooler installed.
Bringing this thread back from the dead. Do you have more info about the accusump? Where did you buy it? How much? Any and all info would be appreciated. I don't want a spun bearing again. This rebuild is costing me way more than expected so I'd like to make it last a little while. Thanks

Man-oh-man that was a great video with heart pumping american V-8 sound and power. Good job and the motor combo. Looks like that motor pulled hard to the top of the rpm range.

You also look like a safe and reasonable driver in all that traffic. Good job on the driving too.

Keep in mind guys that like the poster said, this was just to show you guys what can be accomplished. This isnt a real race, and it doesnt really matter who wins, but it does matter who loses. The losers are the ones who get over agressive and put other there to have fun in danger as well as themselves, or worse, crash, and take out some others, and thier cars. Seeing as how you weren't there, in the car, driving, you dont really know the conditions of the track, or how the car handles, so "coaching" him over the internet doesn't really help anyways.

Shouldn't be too tough to tune on a dyno, might be a little rough via mail order if the tuner hasn't done
similar setups before or if there are unresolved issues with the build.

I can't believe I just saw this thread ... LOL

Nice drive. I always found it satisfying to show up in an F-Car at Porsche and BMW events, get scoffed at and then school the field on a road course. Had one guy who was driving an M5 at the time tell "It must be nice to have twice the horsepower" to which I responded "Yeah and at half the price".

I run a Northern Racing all aluminum radiator with dual 13" fans in a custom shroud. I also have a 6x9 Setrab oil cooler sitting where the battery used to sit, ducted air and it has its own fan.

I also cut away the lower section of the impact beam, moved the nose mounting points out and doubled the opening to the radiator.

At TWS in August, ambient was 102, track was 155 ... water was 185 and oil was 285.

The radiator isn't an LT1 bolt-in ... you have to order a bung and have it heli-arced in the side tank for the upper cooling tube return. And its so thick, you can't run an AC condenser.

Hi Guys,

Funny to see this thread re-surface. This was a NASA event in the DE4 (driver education) group. I am an instructor for them and for most of the car clubs (Porsche, Chin motorsports, Corvette NCM, etc.) I am also a corvette guy and I got into doing driving events with an 01 z06. I trashed the car on track with thousands of track miles. All the while I had my 95 z28 which I bought new sitting around so I decided to make it a track car. In retrospect, it would have been cheaper just to use the corvette as a track car, but I get lots more compliments on the camaro than I did on the 01 z06, or on my 08 z06, just because people already expect those cars to be fast. I am not the worlds best driver, but I have done ok so far, last year the camaro had the track record in TTA, which was 1:38 on some old tires. This year, the vette guys broke out the sticker A6’s and got it down to 1:36.

In the end, the camaro is a pain to work on, but is a good track car and a lot of fun to drive. It accepts a lot of driver input, but doesn't drive itself like a corvette. Getting a camaro slowed down from 155+ mph going into Road Atlanta 10a is quite a challenge, just to avoid brake hopping and going off of the track.

Regarding my saftey equipment, I have a roll bar, race seats, and 5 point harnesses. What I am missing is a Hans device, and that is on my short list.

I have been doing this for about 8 years now, without incident, but I did have a wild ride at road atlanta that a photographer caught. It was funny, as a kid in the paddock was a camaro fan and wanted a ride. I took him out, and on the second lap, I was trying to get by some miller mustangs and saw what looked like a tire in the middle of the track just as I crested T9 at over 140 mph. I went to avoid it and had a crazy ride. I did manage not to hit anything, just flat spotted 4 tires (no abs). Here are the pics. When we finally came to the stop, the kid with me was like 'awesome dude, that was some crazy driving' I don't think he was scared at all!

Here is another video of the car running in the rain. I picked up a set of goodyear intermediate rain slicks and this was a blast. According to my data, I was able to pull 1.2 g's in the rain T6, top speed mid 130's ..
