LE3 or Procharger??

im finally starting my 355 project. My question is: would you go with an le3 kit or a procharger? a used procharger kit is about the same $$ as the le3 package. I was originallly intending to go with the le3, but now that i see the procharger would cost about the same, i dont really know what to do. i dont know very much about FI. what would produce better times?

Couldn't give a definative answer either way. It depends on what you are going to do with the short block. If the shortblock is going to remain somewhat stock (stock crank and rods) then I probably wouldn't use either combo. Now if you are going to build the shortblock to suit your needs then I would probably go the FI route.

There will be alot more supporting mods for a procharger then in the same given price for a LE3 setup, what heads do you have on your car now spending all this money for a boost ready shortblock with a stock set of heads?

i have a forged crank, forged rods, and forged pistons sitting in my bedroom along with the block . if i go with FI, correct me if im wrong, i would have to get different pistons cause the ones i have are for 10.5:1 CR. If i go with a procharger, i will most likely keep the stock heads with upgraded valvetrain obviously. The car is not a DD, but its more like a nice weather/ summer car that may go to the track a few times. my goal is to make it a badass street car (doesnt take much around here though cause there arent many fast cars i was pretty set on the LE package, but i thought maybe i will play with the idea of FI. thanks for the replies thus far

You will make as much power with 7-8psi and stock heads/stock cam as you would with an LE3 setup. The difference is you will be able to run more than 7-8psi on a forged bottom end. You can also do heads/cam down the road to really make big power. Put in the forged shortblock.

Check the FI section and look for 1982z28with18s's thread "teaser vid of my turbo setup". He is runnig a stalled auto with a forged shortblock and STOCK heads/cam/intake. He is running a T76 turbo (I built the hotparts). He has video in that thread of him beating up on various car (2 of them being stalled/auto heads/cam LS1's). He is only running 6psi and a conservative tune. Since he has a forged bottom, he is going to push 15psi or so and see what the limits are of the stock heads/cam. When he reaches that limit (probably 500-550rwhp) you know what he'll do? He will do heads/cam and keep making more power. Thats what happens when you can up the boost.

I can agree with RealQuick on his point, however its all budget dependent yes maybe you could get a kit put together right now that matches your budget but what are your plans in the future, your looking at some expensive upgrades with either of your choices, as fuel system/fuel injectors.

Keep your forged setup and get a blower cam and TFS heads. Should lower your compression ratio with the bigger chambers and flow a lot better.

the cooling setup for f-bodies from procharger sucks ***.. it replaces the dual electric fans with a half way covered fan shroud and a 2" larger fan, that is significantly less efficient.

well, with a procharger, or other FI for that matter, you will have a LOT more room to grow than NA.
Also look into the vortech blowers
