LE2 Head???

Can you have too much head for a cam? I know its stupid but I have a hotcam, and le website says that the le1 heads are right for the hotcam (will a custom grind close to the hot cam), and that the le2's are for a more aggresive cam. But Im thinking about buying some le2, would it be worth it.?

Re: LE2 Head???

The flow difference between the LE1 and LE2 heads is minimal, but the LE2 heads have bigger intake ports by 10cc or so (I beleive). As your intake port increases in size the air velocity in the port drops. Too large a port will affect low end torque. If you never intend to go beyond the Hot cam or say a 224/230, I would save money and go with the LE1 heads.

Re: LE2 Head???

I bought my heads before Lloyd was doing stages. They are from over three years ago. They have big valves, buy flow less than his current Le2 heads. I ran them with a hotcam for three years. I trapped a best of 114mph. The car had great driveability and was fun to drive.
I hope this helps.

Honestly, I would just ask Lloyd. He would be able to give you the best answer to that. He was very helpful with my questions.

Actually your TQ doesn't really drop with lower velocity. Some of the larger heads out there make the most TQ that Lloyd has done.

The big difference in the LE2 heads is the valves and springs. The valves are upgraded to Ferrea 6000 series, so they are a much stronger higher quality valve compared to the stock valves. The larger valve also helps in power prodcution since it allows a larger curtain area due to it's larger size, this gives you another 300rpm to make power in.

Re: LE2 Head???

Talk to Lloyd, but I'm sure the LE2 version will work fine with the Hotcam and have room to spare if you decide to step up the cam a bit (horsepower is addictive).

To support my view:

I have a fellow Vette bud who ran the Hotcam on his '96 GS (Hooker shorties, Mez electric pump, 4:10 rears) and put down 336RWHP (Dynojet). The LT4 heads flow about 240cfm on the intake side. With a bit of mild head porting ($500 worth... very minor mods) and all hardware the same he then put down 370RWHP on the same dyno.

A well thought out and well tuned combination can produce respectable numbers and sound/drive like stock.
