LE2 guys...pushrods

What size pushrods are you using? I have a set of stock length 5/16" hardened tips. Can I use these?

You need to get a pr length checker for around $25 and measure for the correct length. Just being off .05" can lead to excessive valve guide wear. What length worked for others may not work for yours even though its the same setup, it must be checked due to differences in gasket thickness, milling, rockers, etc.
The process of measuring can be found by searching and can be a time consuming process but is relatively easy, just takes patience.

Listen to 2Quick6.
My LE2 heads on my new light decked block LT1 w/ 1.6 promags required 7.000" pushrods for correct alignment.

My old stock head and block LT1 w/ 1.6 NSA promags required 7.050" pushrods.

This must be properly measured or bad things will happen.

i was told (le) that very rarely is the length any different than that(if it is usually 7.00) and that because lt1 has an adjustable valvetrain its kinda ok to be slightly off

but i dont know, just stating what i was told, did u not ask him

For my LE2 Setup Lloyd recomended TFS-21407200 , they are Trick Flow 7.20 pushrods, i have not got to the valvetrain yet, but i am giving Lloyd the benefit of the doubt.

??? The LT1 valve train is no different than any other SBC, there's is only one way the valve train geometry will be correct. Measure it by making the rocker tip ride right in the center of the valve stem via the correct measuring procedure.

I didn't actually buy the heads from Lloyd, I got them from someone on the boards, but they are LE2's. I had previously emailed Lloyd when I was looking at sending my own heads in, I asked him about some of the supporting mods I needed and he said go with Comp Cams 7939-16, they are 7.150 so I don't know... I never even knew you actually had to measure the rods or it will cause trouble.

Did you ever wonder, when you look in cam manufacturer's catalogs, why they sell pushrods in 0.050" incremental lengths ?

So wait a minute... I'm taking my car into a shop to have them install everything. Do shops even measure for proper length? I don't want to have them install these pushrods I have blindly... Do they usually take care of this? Either way I'll be calling and making sure before I take my car anywhere.

If they even question this then find another shop.
Geometry is critical.

Damn, you took a lot of heat in that thread lol. We'll you convinced me at least. I'm going to take the extra time to make sure the pushrods are measured for correct length and I'll invest in a good set of chromoly rods when the time comes. Thanks a lot.

That seems to be common place with just a few folks trying to do the bashing.. I think that one is classic because the agruing continues even after the guy is fully aware he used chromemoly tubed pushrods and not the hardened steel ones that were the subjuct of being junk
For an extra $70 insurance, it can't be beat...where else can you get something that much stronger and better for just $70.... back in the days of BMX racing the high end frames were all made of chromemoly and the tubes were amazingly thin for the beating they took.

BTW, being that your heads were bought used, that is an excellent idea to measure as one of the previous owner(s) could have had them milled.

Bret seems to be the "pinata" taking the bashing recently here on the forum, I think many forget that he does this for a living.
