LE2 daily drivers...I need your help

I want to hear from you guys with full LE2 setups with M6. What I want to know is how does the car behave and perform during casual driving, starts and stops etc.

I am confident I know what to expect under WOT, that is not the point here. I want to know how the casual driving compares to stock LT1. Mileage would and when the power comes on would be helpful too.

my cars not an M6 but i think mine drives pretty good considering its cam only and an auto. i still need tuning and have a lot of bugs to work out but my gas mileage is about 14mpg city and 19-21mph highway. with a little over 2.5 gallons of gas i can drive to school 40 miles both ways in stop and go traffic. my guess is that with M6 it should get better gas mileage since you got 2 more gears, and the cam makes power from a little under 3000-6500rpm. so really stop and go shouldnt be too bad cuz the cam makes still makes good power on the lower end. my car feels like it has a real flat torque curve cuz it just pulls hard from down low and lights up the tires at any speed under 55mph @ WOT. maybe if my car had the matching heads it would drive a lil better, hope this helps.

The nearest freeway it me is about 6 miles and i have to drive through a dense suburban area to get to it. There is an annoying amount of stoplights along the route. In stop and go traffic the power range is broad enough to make stop and go driving fairly painless. My only complaint really is my clutch being pretty difficult to slip in that sweet spot. I would say that a perfectly stalled auto would be a dream to drive, even in traffic. As far as M6 cars go i would say get a twin disk clutch and make sure you use 4.10 gears and thats about as good as its gonna get.

As far as mileage goes the best i have been able to get is 18mpg 85% highway miles. Around the city i have gotten as bad 10mpg but if i dont drive it like an idiot it will get around 12-13mpg. Of course my setup is a about as bad as its gonna get. My tuner also says he could probably lean out the mid range stuff a little more to eek some more mileage out of it, but i only drive the car once a week twice at the most (but just because i have a company 4 banger to drive arounnd).

With the right drivetrain components its a very livable setup.

Hope this helps
Steve

i've driven a LE2 set up before and its not bad, i wouldn't say any worse than my stock headed cc306... the clutch you go with will probably be more an issue than the heads cam if you have a good tune...

I would think a good tune will make all the difference in whether or not the car drives like it should.

Mines not a DD. I don't think I could put up with it on a daily
drive situation.
Don't get me wrong it's very "streetable" but when you drive around at
legal speed the car just wants to go go go go.
I'd talk to Lloyd about a lil tamer cam if I wanted to daily drive it,
or use the heads and swap in a 503.

I find the LE2 set ups much easier to handle on the street than
any 306 combo I've encountered. Could be the tune.

What's right for most might not have been the best thing for you then. An LE2 is a nice set-up that is very streetable and not radical at all when tuned properly.

No actually I think the LE2 is perfect for a street car
too much FOR ME as a daily driver. Ive driven more radical
set ups in the past don't have the need to do that anymore.
The fact that I have no ac plays into the equation.
It all comes down to personal tastes.

I am currently building new near all forged 355 and I have LE2 heads and LE1.5 camshaft.

I am flirting with the idea of swapping for the LE2 cam. My car is not a daily driver or a racer, I just need to keep thing practical.

I must have:
Excellent reliability
Engine longevity
Decent mileage
Like stock performance when NOT at WOT

Yes the LE2 will rev to 6600 RPM which will take a quicker toll on parts, thats a concern too. The LE1.5 will rev to 6300 RPM which is better for longevity.

Thats the dilemma.

If its all forged (rods) and ballanced properly i woundn't worry aout reving from 6300 to 6600 too much, that combo should be fine at 7k. I'm reving the stock bottom end to 6900 with nearly 200k miles on it, lol

The LE2 cam is fine for daily driving. I wanted the LE1 cam and i guess i was given the LE2 cam by mistake. Bret said he'd switch me cams so i'll be doing the swap soon hopefully. It has a little surge with stock gears but its not terrible. It just kind of lacks the low end grunt that i'm looking for.

Been driving it to work and back every day plus weekend trips here and
there, no real issues. The high stall causes me to rev a little more in parking lots.
I can still pull 20mpg if I keep my foot out of it (which rarely happens)
Otherwise the only difference is the stares
