LE2 cam, what lifters, pushrods?

Hi guys. I've been getting together a list of everything i need to buy for my heads/cam swap and lifters is one thing i hadn't even thought of yet. Will i need to get new ones? Are mine the hydraulic kind? I plan on getting the Vortec 1.6RR's from Ebay, is that not a good idea?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW

the LE2 cam is supposed to be close to the GM847 for cam specs. I'm doing the work myself. I know i don't know much about these engines, but i think i am competent enough to learn with you all's help.

Thanks in advance,
Shawn

Re: LE2 cam, what lifters, pushrods?

I don't know about those Vortec rockers.... I haven't heard a whole lot on them which is the reason why I'd go with something that's been tested over and over in many different setups...

I have, and would recommend Comp Pro Magnum 1.6 RRs, non self aligning, on a 7/16 stud and GMPP guideplates.

I also have Comp 1 piece chromemoly pushrods and these would work great for your combo.

Also have comp R lifters which again, I'd recommend.

Your stock lifters are hydraulic, but I would get new ones since that cam likes higher RPMs and it's generally a good idea to get new lifters with a cam.

So how much is all of this going to cost?! i don't know where to get the Comp R stuff. Like i am an Ebay person so looking through stores fast becomes futile for me. What would you reccomend as a good store?

Oh yeah, and will you do my tune ?

I am not sure how much this will cost you, but you should browse through some sponsor sites to get an idea:

www.ls1speed.com
www.thunderracing.com
www.cmotorsports.com

are a good place to start. I bought most of my parts from Thunder Racing but the cam and springs came from Combination.

My advice is not to rush and get quality parts then do it once and right.

Yes, I can tune your car, that is no problem.

GMPP 1.6 SA rockers are a bit cheaper and will also do the job. As for the lifters, Id go with a set of comps. also pick up a set of hardened pushrods from cmotorsports.com for ~$35

Well i can afford it if i don't get a 58mm Tb. i figure that will cause me to lose what, like 10hp but save me $360. I definately want it to last. I figured i can do all of this for $3,500 but it will be really close.

You'll be fine with the 48 mm... but get the NSA rockers.

I would get the Comp Cams Pro Magnum NSA Rockers (1305-16), 7/16 studs, Hi Tech push rods (7940-16), GM 14011051 guide plates and R lifters from Comp.

Re: LE2 cam, what lifters, pushrods?

Comp Pro NSA - $272
Guideplates - $47
Comp R Hydaulic Lifters - $220
Pushrods - $35

That sound about right? My car only has 66k on it so are you sure i absolutely need new lifters? I'm on a very tight budget . Also the Ebay rockers are $147 less since they are SA. Will it really make that much of a difference if i go the cheap route? I'm gonna do whatever Llyod tells me to, but I was just wondering.

Some of those prices are a bit high but I would go with a set of Hi Tech 5/16 Pushrods. Pushrods take a lot of abuse and with them seeing 500-650 lbs of force junk is not what you want there.

Re: LE2 cam, what lifters, pushrods?

alot of people re use the stock lifters on their head and cam set ups with alot more miles on them than that and have NO problms. You will find a few people that do have problems though. If the budget can't handle all of the parts mentioned, get the 1.6 Pro Mag rockers (NSA), 7/16 studs, GM 14011051 guide plates ($25) and Hi Tech pushrods ($100 or so). Get THESE parts (not cheeper parts that are similar) and then re use stock lifters.

Even if you bought the cheeper parts and got lucky enough not to break anything, they will be flexing at high RPM and wasting HP. Better to spend a lil more now and eliminate any of this from happeneing.

SA rockers will not clear with the springs use on the LE 2 heads. We can use the Beehive springs on your heads and this will work with that cam and allow you to re use the stock lifters.

Re: LE2 cam, what lifters, pushrods?

So how much more will the beehive valve springs be? I thought they were used in the 1.5 setup you quoted me? What RPM would you reccomend my limiter being set at and shift points? I've heard it's safe to go 6700 on a stock bottom end, but that seems kinda high.

Also what year heads will fit my car? I have to buy a set off of Ebay to send to you so i was just wondering if the heads were difference since there were changes made.

Thanks,
Shawn

Re: LE2 cam, what lifters, pushrods?

The springs are included in the price. If you ahve R lifters, we acn use 977 dpouble springs, Ti retainers, locks and locators. These springs are WAY too strong for the stock lifters and the bee hive is the best set up since it has a small retainer that is light weight, still can handle the lift of the LE 2 cam and have the pressure to eliminate valve float but still work with stock lifters.

All of the aluminum LT1 heads will interchange but the 97 models (561 castings) are thinner and do not offer as much "meat" to remove and will not flow as well with the larger valves and fully porting.

As far as RPM limit, that depends on how lucky you feel. I would think the limiter set at 6600-6700 RPM is fine and shift at 6400-6500 RPM. The RPM limiter is just there in cars you miss a gear or break something.
