LE2/4 Progress and Other Misc. Pics

Figured I'd post a few pics and share my progress. I've owned this car for about a year now and I'm finally getting around to getting it up and running with the new H/C setup, which is perfect because it's starting to cool down. After picking up the car, I ordered a set of LE2 heads and an LE4 cam and got the up and running. This was really the first time the car wasn't running open headers with the new motor (fully forged Nutek 396).

With the quiet exhaust, I noticed a 'tapping' sound coming from the passenger's side of the motor. I tried everrything to diagnose the noise and had no luck. After pulling the motor, it turns out the noise was coming from the #4 and #6 rods smacking on the crank scraper in the pan (Nutek did a good job clearancing the block for the longer stroke, but *should* have clearanced the pan as well). After a few minutes withe the dremel and an hour or so of cleaning the pan, the reassembly started.

While the car was down, I sent my intake manifold to LE for porting - should be good for another ~ 15 rwhp w/my setup.

Here are a few pics of the motor coming out the bottom:

Picture of where the rods were hitting the pan:

I *hope* to have dyno/track numbers in the next few weeks.

Very nice progress. So from what I gather, you basically are using the engine hoist to pull the car up as high as possible by using the strut tower brace?

Looks like when you started you had the hoist directly in front of the car, which made it impossible to get the engine our from under the car. How were you able to move the engine hoist around to get the angle you needed to roll the engine out since the floor jack and tranny jack are "trapped" by the engine hoist? Trying to get tips since my garage looks smaller than yours.
Thanks.

Looking good, I plan on pulling mine the same way. Out the Bottom is easy, you get to leave the tranny, exhaust, waterpump, Etc connected and it comes out together, should have a nice setup when done any Goals????
BTW what pan is that I cab't tell from the pics, and did you notch it any before install. That 3.875 Crank slings WIDE, lol.
BTW I have a few sites listed for helping me drop my motor out the Bottom,
I have a one of these, thankfully now, b/c jacking the car up was getting old FAST, lol

Also not to Hi-jack this thread but I have a saved a Few guides to dropping the motor out the bottom

http://www.michiganspeed.com/
If anyone would like to give everyone and me a little advice on pulling the motor from the bottom go for it, thanks a lot.

Once the car is up high enough just set it on jackstands and get the cherry picker out of the way. You shouldn't be hanging around under a car hoisted by a cherry picker with no support anyways.

You can see in the last "engine under the car" pic that the cherry picker has since been removed and is out of the way.

Thanks. The C5 wheels will be replaced by some draglites very soon (already have the skinnies - just need to order the rears).

The GTO will remain mostly stock for quite a while, as the car is my DD.

We were able to rotate the hoist around to the side of the car and slide the motor out. It actually came out pretty easily this way.

The pan is a Canton 7 qt. pan and not it wasn't clearanced at all when the motor was assembled, but it is now.

The goal is 120 MPH in the 1/4. I'm not really setting any ET goals since the car still has the 10 bolt, but I'd hope for mid to high 11s with DRs.
