LE1 worth it?

I have a couple of rules for modifying my car, mainly staying emissions legal. Thats why I went with the SLP short tube headers, and plan on getting a Random Tech y-pipe. I have been reading on some posts of the LE1 and they seem to make amazing power for the money. I was wondering if this set-up would keep me competitive with the new cars coming out? I raced a local kid who has a 2003 Lancer OZ edition with a turbo kit, full coil-over suspension (tein), full exhaust, and a intake manifold.. not sure what else... and from 50-110 I only put a car on him. It put the modding bug back into full effect. I want to be competitive with the LS2... but not sure just how competitive I will be. Will this set-up be enough?

LE1 $1100
1.6 pro mags.. SA or NSA? $260
52mm TB $300+
Full exhaust only need the y-pipe or do i?
2600 Edge Racing TC $325

Low 12's would be good, with great driveability and the ability to pass emissions. Any opinions?

if you lose to any rice...especially that crap DSM you mentioned...you should be hunted down and embarrassed in the town square...unless your car is as fudged up as mine is...which can be your only excuse!

Hey I didn't lose anyways. Manual vs. Auto on the freeway and I still pulled a car.. plus he has over 5 grand in mods on his car, and I have less than a grand.

I am very happy with mine, but it might be tough to get it to pass emissions.

Might be tough without upping the displacement. Some jack *** revealed Lloyd's old LE1 cam specs on the for sale section and it was a pretty mean cam. No idea how his new cam's are but it might be a little hard to pass emissions with them on a 350, but you may be able to. My buddy passed without a Cat and AIR with proper tuning and a Lt4 hot cam.

Re: LE1 worth it?

According to Lloyd, the LE1 cam is similar to the hotcam or the comp 305, and these 2 cams are reported to pass emissions easily with a good tune.
Get the NSA pro magnum rockers for the 7/16" studs with the hi tech series pushrods or equivalent and gm guide plates.
Also consider upping that stall to 9.5" 3000-3200.

Re: LE1 worth it?

Well, the specs listed on the LE1 were nowhere near the hot cam,I would think he meant it has the same powerband, it was a 110 LSA cam. Like I said, thats his old one and he doesn't use that one anymore.

Re: LE1 worth it?

They were the old LE1 specs anyways......

BTW Lloyd also has a emissions legal LE1 cam too if that's what you need.

From what I understand Lloyd makes his LE1 cams differently for your needs. LE1 is like a guide he can make it more mild or wild depending on what you need. Give him a call and he'll tell you exactly what he can do. He is very helpful and knowledgable, good guy to talk to.

Re: LE1 worth it?

Your exhaust is poo...Shorties are a HP/Tq killer. They are smog legal, but don't expect crazy numbers with the exhaust you've got. My old exhaust was costing me 30+ rwhp. The loudmouth is fine, but shorties and a stock type Y pipe (with cats) will be hard pressed to make numbers like other LE1 setups.

But power is power...anything that makes more is worth it.

Re: LE1 worth it?

If you REALLY need to pass emission, I can get one that will do that for you as well.

I was meaning that the LE1 cam works in the same RPM range as the Hot Cam and CC 305. The cam specs that were posted were a lil more radical but the newest version actually has less duration than the specs that where given out and actually makes more average power and the same peak HP.

There is always more power stuff out there but I dopubt if you can find anything in the $1100 range that makes that kinda power.
