LE1 compression ratio

Like the title says: What is the compression ratio for a 355 with a LE1 package. People ask me and I don't know what to tell them. I am running the Impala head gaskets and my pistons are stock style replacements.

I don't believe my block had to be decked much. I am sure the machinist checked it, but he didn't say anything. I don't know how thick the Impala gasket is, but it is thinner than the Camaro gasket.

you can only guestimate at this point unless your machinist gives you an exact figure as to how much the piston is in the hole. I think the impala gaskets are .029 and the stock style repl. pistons are -5cc's. if the block hasn't been decked then it could be .020 or more in the hole.

This may sound like a dumb question but, how do I figure out the CR. Is there a formula I can use?

you are probably gonna end up at 11.1-11.2 to 1 with that set up.

It is just hard to get more compression with out milling the heads aggressively (.040 or more) and then the intake flange and possibly intake manifold needs to be milled to correct the alignment.

I only mill the heads .010 or so and with the Impala gaskets, everything still fits together with out this extra (and more expensive) work. It would be nice to mill the heads a lil more and get more compression (free HP and TQ) for a customer wanting a lil more power as longa s the customer is willing to pay for the extra work needed.

You will be fine on 92 octane pump gas.

Thank you Lloyd. I didn't want to e-mail you and ask because I asked so many questions when I ordered. Thanks again. The heads and cam are working great. Too bad my rear end self destructed.

Thank you. I have had it five years and it keeps improving. I believe in the hot rodders mantra: Why replace when you can upgrade.
