LE1 Cam with LE3 Heads: Bad Idea?

I like the idea of starting off with LE3 heads because they leave room to grow, but from what I understand, a head of this size on stock cubes calls for alot more RPM's. A bottom end rebuild is in the pipeline, but I wanna see if I can get any use out of these heads in the meantime until that comes to fruition. Will this head/cam combo be a problem on a 144K stock bottom end? I'm thinking that the LE1 cam might "tame" the heads a little bit, not requiring the engine to rev as high.

Anybody running a setup like this? What is your experience with it? Also, would an LE1 cam/LE3 head combo make any more power than an LE1/LE1 combo?

if you are realisticly planning on going bigger later get the LE3 now...you just won't be taking full advantage of the head potential

I asked Lloyd the same question a little while ago and he said that I should go no bigger than an LE2 head. The LE3 will make a little more power up top when compared to the LE2, but you will loose power and torque on the low end because the heads are too big. It would also depend on what you wanted to do in the future with your motor. When you rebuild it are you going to stay with the LE1 cam and a 355 or are you going to step up the cubes and the cam? If you are going to step up to a LE2 cam and stay 355 I would get the LE3 heads or if you are going to go 383 then stay with the LE3 heads because anything smaller with choke the motor.

Well, I heard that the LE3 heads would feed a 355 better than a 383, Lloyd told me this, that the 383 will restrict the rpm and the 355 will keep on going up.

The LE1 cam will help keep your RPM down. It's not a problem to match the different cams to the different heads. The LE2 is definately going to like more RPM and the LE3 is really only for a 355 since it will likely eat up a stock bottom end in a short time due to the RPM.

LE1 cam + LE2 heads = SWEET combo.

The LE2 heads will produce more power than the LE1 heads did.
15-20rwhp is well worth the investment.

You don't have to treat LEx stuff as off the shelf and mess with combos,
Bret and Lloyd will help you pick the best setup. Just let em know what you want
to do. There are some nice vids and sound files floating around the board that will
help you make up your mind
