LE cam + cats + emissions testing
LE cam + cats + emissions testing
Hi all,
I am dealing with Texas emmissions and looking to see if there is a way for me to pass the sniffer test. Car is a 95 z28 that has been down and out for a few years and was recently rebuilt with LE2 heads and a 226/230 cam. Car has long tube headers, OYRP and Borla catback.
Is it possible to pass the sniffer with this cam and 2 quality cats?
I was thinking about fabbing up two of these to the y-pipe:

I was told the metallic substrate is superior to the ceramic. Would this do the trick or would I need to spend more money on the california cats?
Thanks in advance!

Re: LE cam + cats + emissions testing
With a really good tune, you should be able to pass the sniffer. Back when Missouri had emissions testing for pre-OBDII cars I passed with ported heads, 224/230 605/622 112+2 cam, long tubes and Dynatech PowerCats.
What is the LSA of your camshaft? If it is tighter than 112 that could cause a problem.

Re: LE cam + cats + emissions testing
I talked at length with the tech, he said he just needed there to be 1 cats on each bank of the exhaust since I added long tube headers. I'll have to chop up my y-pipe but it will be worth it imo.
