i ran a friends 2000 formula and stalled it up til the tires were about to break loose then backed off 200rpm. when the next to last light hit, i put it to the floor, and couldnt believe how hard her car launched on ****ty goodyears. go around the waterbox, back up till you just get to a little wetness and turn them over a few times then pull up on dry concrete then heat them up till you get a good bit of smoke coming off the tires but not just killing them. when you get a ggod bit of smoke coming off them, then let it roll out and back off the throttle til she catches. dont dry hop radial tires unless drag radials. also, when you pull up and see who your are going to run next to, if they have drag radials, let them start their burnout first. street radials cool off fairly quickly compared to drag radials so if you do your fairly quick burnout, you will be at the line before him and your tires will cooldown. do not overdo your burnout with street radials and dont put your air pressure below probably 30psi. this is how i ran her car and cut a best of 1.78 60' and her car ran a 13.44@106 bone stock with an automatic.

when i was running slicks, i'd get the nice and warm and then launch of the revlimiter, YES this was on my stock 10 bolt(i think, not sure was previous owner did) but the rear end is still in tact, and has taken many launches like that, on street tires i also avoid the water box, but i dont heat them up, i just chirp em alittle to clean the dirt and **** off, i come off the line at around 1800ish??? i ease out the clutch, my problem is when i nail it while rolling i spin

edit: i see you have a auto, my post means nothing

nope. 200 rpm below the point where it feels like your tires are begining to break loose. hold there til the next to last light hits, dont even look at the green light, just the next to last light yellow light. when it hits, nail it.

Smokindastangs............dust6328 doesnt meant that he leaves at 200rpms..............read close...........he revs the car up until it feels like the wheels are going to spin.....(a fictional number -- but lets say its at 1500rpms).....then he backs off 200rpms....(now hes at 1300rpms)........then he hits it when the light goes........does that makes sense???

Yoy have to drop the tire pressure or you'll spin like crazy. I have a 3000 stall but I launch at 1800 so that my converter flashes.

Ahhh..thanks scottslt1z28, i see, my bad. He really confused me on that one. Thanks for the "idiot" explanation. My bad, but that does make perfect sence and is a very good idea. I plan to try it.

that doesnt always hold true if you are running on street tires, i cut better 60's with normal or 5 pounds less than normal.

you said it 94_. thats why in my post i said do not go below 30psi in most street radials. my friends car had gsc's on it and it launched best at 30 psi with a burnout like i explained earlier. automatics are easy to launch, you should try it with my car and the 4.10's and 6spd. to much and you smoke em violently, not enough and it almost stalls which is usually the best i can get from it.

a stall allows the engine to spin up close or at that rpm before the car really begins to move which puts the car in or close to its powerband which is where you want to launch from. they are a pain sometimes on the street because it kills your gas mileage and trannies run a little hotter but if you are serious about running hard you should get one. some cars gain as much as 6 tenths in the quarter because you can launch at a higher rpm. contact the guys at precision industries and tell them what you have done to your car and the approximate weight with you in it and they will make a converter, based off their vigilante series, to meet your needs. if you upgrade maybe with a cam or nitrous they will reflash your stall at no charge one time. great converters, used my first one way back in 93 and have been ever since.
