Late Night Help -please-!!!

Any help here would be GREATLY appreciated, i need to get to work for tomorrow and my cars my only transport !
I just parked my car and tried to restart it about 20 seconds after i parked it...
This hasn't happend before.. the engine went click, all the lights went off. I don't know whats happend, it wont start up again. I double checked my batter terminals. Retightend them both... they seemd to be fine.

Looking inside the car, after i disconnected and reconnected the terminals the lights came back on inside when i opend the door like they should, turned the key to ON, and stuff happend like it should (beep beep beep, i could hear the fuel pump) turned the key to start the engine and then click same thing, all power goes off.

I opened the door, and then closed it. When the door closed the red alarm light came on (like it normally does because i keep it in valet mode). Opend the door again, light goes off, close it light went back on. NO other lights were going on cept the lil red light on the side console.

Any clue as to whats going on? the car wasnt armed on alarm and shouldnt have disabled the car from starting.. so i have no clue whats going on here! someone please help!

Its definitely battery related. I think you should scrape out the terminals with a knife. They are really soft metal so don't scrape too much. I think you have a bad connection to the battery. This same thing happens whenever I don't tighten the terminals down enough. I hear you when it comes to the "only transportation" problem. I hope you can fix it. Definitely try the scraping thing. It should work.

Thing is I brought out a multimeter and measured a good voltage between two points on the wire, so i know the connections there! Also the lights and everything go back on when i reconnect the terminals, i actually did it more than once, its like its 100% ok till i turn the key I did have a loose terminal in the past, but this is slightly different because last time there was zero power in the car... I'm gona try pulling out a brush tho and scrape the ends right now... brb.

Car appears completly locked now Security light is on, if i disconnect battery (light goes off when i loosen it), and reconnect it (light goes back on) the interior lights no longer go on. Just the security light. When i open the door, security light goes off, close door security light goes on.

Cleaned the terminals too and shot some electrical cleaner into the keyhole, cleaned both keys, tried using the 2nd key which i know works fine normally... Wont even click.. just that darn security light how long till it goes off? Im sure its a security feature for it to shut the engine off like that... I just dont know if i'll get it to start again!

This sounds crazy.. but try cleaning off your key... it almost sounds like the signal that the chip is supposed to send out isn't going through.. hence the car no start.. but you have power and everything... just somthing.. I hope you figure it out soon... GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for the replies... so far i've done the following:
Cleaned Key
Cleaned Ignition Key Lock
Cleaned Battery Terminals
Checked Voltage of battery (ok)
Switched to spare keys.
Disconnected Reconnected Battery..

It appears the cars now locked, i have no clue how long it'll be locked for but i guess ill wait it out until i can get the electical system up again.

Its only supposed to lock for 10 minutes. But you should still get interior lighting, and all gauges should come on like normal, but die when you turn the key. I really don't know what to tell you.

O and by the way. Just because a battery is reading the correct voltage, does not mean that it is pushing the correct amperage. You could have a bad battery. Try and jump the battery and see if that works. Although I just realized you may not have another car to jump it with. But it has got to be battery related.

Crap well I might have some bad news for you... I talked to a friend of mine and he had the same problem once... his turned out to be the wires that lead up to the sensor that reads the key... one of them broke (internally) they are reall weak little things... but that's what his was.... just somthing else to look at.

no way...when vats initiates it does not cause the entire car to shut down. Just the ignition. All other components work just fine. Radio, gauges, interior lights...all that stuff. I wish shoebox was on, he's pretty good at these things...

Heres another strange thing... when i turn the security system off of valet mode, it "tries" to start the alarm, only thing is it sounds really really faint... and the volume goes up and down a bit... maybe i have a short somewhere??

I'd be willing to bet that your battery has bought the farm. The last battery that failed in my TA gave bizarre symptoms. The car ran great until I stopped for gas. Afterwards, when I tried to start my car I had interior and dash lights but the car wouldn't crank (various relays "clicking" under the hood). The horn and alarm system didn't sound quite right either. Luckily there was an autozone nearby so I replaced the battery and that fixed it.

Took her to the dealer, battery was leaking acid... hopefully thats it. Would a bad alternator, faulty starter (starter was replaced not long ago) cause this? or perhaps from the battery not being secured properly?
