Lack of power in upper RPMs?

What would cause an upper RPM loss of power causing the gas petal to fell mushy? In the lower RPM's the car has tons of grunt and the pedal feels stiff and very responsive. Above about 4000 RPM's it feels the exact opposite and the car doesnt pull like it should.
There is no miss, etc, the car is running fine.

Could knock do this?

Its probably something in the ignition. I had the same problem last time I was at the track, and the next week my Opti went. Haven't been back to the track sine I replaced it, but after I did some "testing" on the highway, the car pulls hard into the redline and then some.
