Re: L98 Intake on LT1

The L98 intake will NOT work on an LT1 due to the mating angle between the heads/intake on a LT1 (or also any Vortec 350) is different than earlier small block chevy engines; it will NOT seal/mate.

Re: L98 Intake on LT1

You shouldn't need a TPI intake to burnout in your LT1. If thats a problem, you should start looking for other things (problems), and not a TPI intake.

Yep, because there are plenty of LT1s using a Super Ram or a Stealth Ram, and plenty of L98 guys who switch to an LT1 intake.

Re: L98 Intake on LT1

I just wanted to chime in again this morning and post that this is STILL the dumbest thing I've read on cz28.com.

Thank you, carry on.

Uh, you might consider LT5 intake.

Re: L98 Intake on LT1

lol this thred cracks me up...how about u put a ls1 intake on it...with a 22mm monoblade throttlebody...so you can get alot of torque and no hp

Re: L98 Intake on LT1

I acutally find this Thread relatively FUNNY, but Probably for a Different reason. I would not but a L98 intake on an Lt1 car, peak HP would be around 4500-5000 at tops. Tq production would however be around the same since the L98 has a long runner intake 28-30 inches of runner length. Any of you Lt1 boys ever run a L98 motor stock for stock they hang with us down low and when we get into the RPMs we pull them, (kinda of sounds like us and the Ls1). TRUE its not just the intake contributing to this, but rather a system as a WHOLE. Mainly just the Heads, cam, and intake.
What would happen if the L98 had a .550 lift cam with some LS1 style Flowing heads??? Could that Long Runner intake see 6000+ RPM and make gobs of Tq doing it???

For you guys who believe a L98 STYLE intake wouldn't Perform well take a look at this article http://compcams.com/Community/Articl...p?ID=-61543841

I could take a 350 LT1 using the Superram using the same heads and cam and make just as much HP and TQ throughout the RPM range than a 383 LT1 using the LTx intakes using the same heads and cam.

I was about to pull the Trigger on this intake but I went single plain to see 7000+RPM on a 396 Lt1, since then I Changed my plans to go with a Procharger setup instead so I am back with the LT4 intake and monoblade.
If I was going to stay N/a and under 6500 RPM's I would pick up an Accel Superram

Re: L98 Intake on LT1

lol come in here and try to justify the tpi intake...thats why you can make another 40 hp by changing the intake to carbed on a completely stock tpi...is it the same for lt1? no...yes you can mod anything to make it better...we made make lt4 intakes or sheetmetal ltx intakes that flow amasingly...so we were talkin about stock here

Re: L98 Intake on LT1

Daniel6718 just trying to say that intake selection is just as important as the head and cam selection. Any time you can make 60lbs of Tq and 25-30 HP Throughout the RPM range From a INTAKE SWAP is a good thing. In a race you are going to be a hella of a lot quicker given that the setups are similiar (Gears, stall speeds, weight, etc) Just saying all of us Lt1 guys want a longer runner intake and we actually have one the LT1 Superram.

Sure, the L98 can be helped to perform like a LT1... But what everyone is wondering is why in the hell you would think it would be beneficial to bastardize a LT1 by putting an L98 intake on it.

That would be like pulling the jet engine out of a F-16 so you could swap a Lycoming engine with a propeller on instead. Makes no sense.

I am not saying a Standard L98 intake would be beneficial I said

I acutally stated that a L98 STYLE INTAKE could be beneficial. I wouldn't put a Superram on a stock LT1 (see the dyno graph curves that I posted in initial link) But on a Modded LT1 say a Le2 head and a up to date camshaft say a 3100 Comp lobe that peaks around 6200 (perfect for the desired RPM range of the intake). John Ligenfelter use to use this intake on a lot of the Lt1 cars back in the day with his 383 packages using the small 219/219 .56X .56X cam.

No pun intended but I also think you missed the point of my assumption, I am not trying to make an L98 Perform like a LT1, but rather the benefit of a Aftermarket 3rd gen style intake made for the Lt1 and the power increases that can be made with a longer runner intake. I am glad the guys at Super Rod did this comparison test between the LT1 intake and the LT1 superram, Hopefully it will open up some ideas and we can push the Lt1 even harder
