I wanted to do the header's now for a little more LT1 fun, and at the same time chose the stepped 1 7/8" for the upcoming mods.
Edit* BTW Before I had these headers installed, the car would slightly push you CLOSER towards the back of your seat. It now PUTS you into the back of your seat.

I am assuming that you are at stock ride height, right? How is ground clearance? It looks like it is pretty good, but the pictures are all angled up at the headers so it is hard to tell how far they sit down from the body. It was the best way to take pics so that we can see the headers though....
How much farther down do they sit as opposed to the stock stuff? I am lowered and really want LT's. These might be the answer, but I have had my cat drag once, so they can't be much lower than that for me to be able to make them work for me.
TIA

That is a lot of header for a stock car.
I would be surprised if your making more power. The mind is a cruel beast.
Looks good though.

Yes, the Kooks headers come in 2 forms, with our without air tube fittings. The headers were made on a 96 I believe, and so like everyone on here has said, you will need to use the home depot adaptors to make them work on the older cars. Not a big deal. You can do it any way you want too, but the adaptors are the easiest fix..
Look forward to seeing how they do on your basically bone stock Z28. Keep us informed on dyno numbers, and if anybody is interested in purchasing a set like Gabe has, just give us a call. 281-448-1300.

Those look great. I would have had them coated to cut the heat down but plug access looks really good. Once I get sick of mt Hookers then I'll be looking for some myself...looks great
I don't understand why the passenger side O2 bung is facing the rocker panel instead of facing the transmission?
I have seen other stepped headers that look much cleaner (less welds because of more one piece tubing). Seems like a lot of work to do when you are going to heads shortly. But at least the headers will go on quicker the 2nd time around. Being that this motor is stock displacement, it would be interesting to see what type of gains are made with a stepped header.

I just recently got the AIR tubes connected with a 7/8" nut..it sealed decently and just now put some steel putty around the nut so hopefully it won't leak at all. I'll find out tomorrow...if it still leaks then I'll just get the bastard welded onto the header. Now that there's no exhaust noises coming from under the hood, damn this car sounds much better. If anyone can host, I'll take a short vid of these headers running through Kook's 3" ORY and flowmaster muffler.

I want to know how that slip fit works out from the collector to the y-pipe. I know more people that leak around there than anywhere else. Nothing a bead of RTV couldn't solve though.
Those would look and perform very nicely on my 396.
Wonder how much of gain in comparison to my FLP's?
