What after market hi torque starter are you using that clears Kooks 1 3/4 x 1 7/8 stepped headers? I have a 383 with 12.3:1 compression going into my 95 Firehawk and I have a Summit Pro Torque starter but the headers hit it.

 

I used Jegs 555-10001. You can mount it in different positions to clear different headers. The LPPs I used hit the stock starter but with the Jegs starter I could rotate it to fit. No problems now.

What part of the starter are they hitting? I've run my stepped Kooks with a stock starter and a Powermaster mini-starter with no issues at all.

The header tube hits the body of the starter near where the starter bolts on. 97WS6SCharged, do you have the part number for the Powermaster starter you used?

It was a 9500 that I sent back and had converted to work with the LT1. The actual part for an LT1 is PM9502.

If the header is hitting the body of the starter I'm not sure if that will solve your issue. You have any pictures of it?
