Know any good tricks to get a rotor off?
Re: Know any good tricks to get a rotor off?
I had this problem with one of my rear rotors. The rotor was 90k miles orginal and rusted tight
A hammer failed for two hours and I wasn't looking to reuse the rotor, so I really hit it.
The fix, a Walmart "Mapp" gas torch. Mapp burns hotter than propane about 2000deg hotter.
I just held the torch for about 30 sec on the rotor center between each of the five studs. Aobut 2.5 minutes later two light taps and the rotor fell off.
A thin coat of anti-sieze will stop this from happening again.

in short...remove the studs from the back!

I would recomend if you are gonna be wacking it with the hammer that you either use a rubber malet or a piece of wood. It might be a good idea to spray some WD-40 around the studs and the center section. It may be a good idea to install a lug nut on a couple of turns so it doesn't fly off and land on the pavment and mess something up.
