GMHTP had a problem with a high knock count on their LT1 car and when they took the belt off to change the timing chain they realized it was the balancer loose. It had a underdriven pully system on it.

Did you use a stethoscope or at least a screwdriver to the ear to isolate where it is coming from?

I did listen with a screwdriver to the valve covers. It sounds like normal valve noise to me. I really don't like starting it up anymore, for fear more damage.

Cool

Hi, I think if you unbolt the trans and slide it back, you can tighten the bolts. I have done it, it is tight. just my 2-cents.Ray

Auto 's don't have a flywheel, but we are glad you figured it out. Good call everyone.

Dude my 93 383 is making the exact same noise as your video i thought it was a wrist pin or something and its been parked for a while, but I'm pulling it in the shop tonight to check the flexplate as well i really hope that's what it is because my engine only has 700 miles on it.

Maybe next time you'll work on it like i tell you to instead of parking it for a year wanting me to pull the motor.

don't forget to put some lock tight on the bolts (would recommend ARP bolt while you are at it ) (also check the flex plate to see if the bolt holes were elongated if so you would need to replace the flex-plate ...)
