Doesn't sound like knock to me, maybe some sort of rattle. Maybe the converter as stated or something. Timing chain? Can you tell where the sound is comming from?

Not sure where it's comming from. Sounds like the engine though. I think I will move it into position tommorow and start working on it. I might pull the trans first and see if it is the converter or flywheel and then go from there. Really sounds like a rod to me though. Pisses me off because it dosn't have that many miles on it. Not going back to that engine shop. Any other suggestion and confirms that it is a rod?

I'm going to say it's the torque converter bolts too.
I had a car that the torque converter bolts came loose and I ended up having to replace the converter and the bolts.
I see no point in pulling the trans just check the bolts.
Or just to be on the safe side unbolt the converter and you should be able to push the converter back and forth a little if you can't do that my might have a problem with the front pump on the transmission.

That don't sound like an engine knock at all i would check to make sure something isn't loose because thats sounds like something is loose somewhere.

definitely doesn't sound like knocking. Like others said it sounds like something is loose.

Usually rod knock is accompanied by squeaking but not always.
Here is an example... (and a lesson on action and consequence)

And another (this one really bad)

I really hope all you guys that say it's the converter are right. Not holdin' you to it though. It would be cheaper and easier if it were the converter.

That really doesn't sound like a rod knock, but it does have a sort of metallic sound like someone's smacking the oil pan or trans inspection cover. with a hammer. My vote goes for the converter. I'd be surprised to hear it was a bottom end problem.

The torque converter bolts are still tight and it is still knockin'. Guess I'll have to pull the trans to make sure it isn't the converter.

dumb question have you drained the oil? is there any metal shaving on the plug.

but i do agree that it sounds like a convert bolt or broken flex plate
