Same problem here. Mine sometimes does the following,
"start, start, knock, engine doesn't start"
then it goes like this if I try to start it after it has knocked
"start, knock, knock, knock, vrooom, vrooom"

Any more ideas?

To me, it sounds like it knocks when it first makes ignition. So it isn't when the flywheel is first engage by the starter, and it isn't once it has hit idle.

It only makes a knocking sound when it's burning up all the accumulated fuel.

Doesn't seem to be hurting anything, or get worse, but it's sorta annoying.
I agree that we are talking about 2 totaly different knocks....mine doew the initial ignition knock as well.

as i said before it only happens in the winter for some reason, when i start my car, before it turns over, it makes a knock seems like its coming from the driver side area, and i use the best oil out there moble 1 syn and i use lucas stablizer too, and still get that knock when its cold out, thats why i thought it was maybe a dry start problem, but i guessed wrong, any more ideas, in the summer never get the knock if that helps

It's not that either. Honestly, it sounds like dieseling for the first split second it ignites. Maybe one or two pops.
