Knock Sensor Desensitization Mod, Resistor Question...

Here's a diagram on how to bypass the knock sensor with a flip of the switch:

http://falklands.globat.com/~fullthr...nsorbypass.JPG

I've purchased some 3.9k ohm 1/2 watt resistors, but I there are different colored "rings" on it, and I was just wondering if those "rings" needed to go a certain direction in respect to the switch and wires? In other words, does the resistor have "poles", or does it function the same way in either direction??

Those resistors go either way.

ALL resistors can be installed either direction.

I figured as much when hosspwr94 told me. I'm by no means an electronics whiz, so I thought I'd ask to be safe. Thanks to the both of you for clearing that up for me!

The resistor acts in place of the actual sensor. So basically it's like tricking the computer into thinking there is no knock all the time. I think that's how it is, but I'm also not that good at wiring, just my understanding.

Personally I think a switch is very dangerous. If the computer thinks there is no knock, and doesn't retard the timing you could have serious problems when there is actual knock.
