I recently upgraded the knock module on my '95 Z to the LT4 model. I was told that the stock LT1 Knock Module part# is 16214661, but when I removed the existing KM from the Z, the part# on it was 16177700. I'm not sure what to make of this.
I did a search/cross reference on ACDelco's online parts catalog and it indicated it was a knock sensor for '94-'95 series LT1s. A similar search with the part# 16214661
showed that it was for '96-'97 LT1s.
Okay, this leads me to my question: What is the difference between knock sensor modules in '94-'95 LT1 F-bodies and the '96-'97s? Is the newer one for the '96-'97 year models good enough that it was a waste of money to get the LT4 KM when I could have gotten a cheaper one from the locals, or is there and OBD problem between the '96-'97 with my system? I bought it in concern that noisy exhaust might have been causing timing retarding, but I haven't really noticed a difference since installing it. I'd appreciate any help you can give!
